The fact that Microsoft actually shocked Sony with releasing the info on the scorpio is very good. And I mean good for gaming, Sony is way to comfortable, just a month or so ago 90 percent of this forum was ready to spend money on a ps4.5 and VR basically about a grand or so.

Now they have to weigh there options whether they want to or not.

Sony now has to either make a move, do they just drop the neo as a mini upgrade and glide with games for the next 4 years or so or do they drop the neo then 2 years from now announce the ps5?

Its getting interesting, with two new system dropping in 2017 and nothing from sony, they dont even have a flagship game to look forward to in 2017 :lupe:

Spec Analysis: Xbox Project Scorpio

A rundown of Scorpio specs and comparison to neo

Digital Foundry said:
On GPU:

First up, let's discuss the GPU - the area of the spec that Microsoft is clearly most proud of. The rumoured six TFLOPs of processing power is confirmed, out-stripping the 4.2TF found in PlayStation Neo by quite some margin.

On Ram:

The stated figure of 320GB/s can be achieved with 8GB of G5X using a 256-bit bus, or alternatively it could be using a 384-bit interface paired with 12GB of GDDR5. Now, this is where the stylised renderings of the Scorpio motherboard prove rather useful as we can count the amount of memory modules on the board - 12 memory chips are visible, confirming the use of current-gen memory tech and not the HBM2 we expect to see on Vega and Nvidia's next-gen TitanThis also seems to suggest that Scorpio has another big advantage over PlayStation 4K Neo - not just over 100GB/s more bandwidth, but also an additional 4GB of onboard RAM.

And this is a good thing for Microsoft in reaching its stated aim of handing in a worthy 4K experience - PlayStation Neo only offers up an additional 512MB of RAM for developers compared to the original PS4, meaning only limited space for higher resolution textures. Scorpio won't just deliver higher resolutions, but there'll be more space for higher detail textures. The only question will be on how quickly that RAM can be filled up - assuming that 5400rpm hard drives are still being used, 12GB will take a long time to fully occupy. On the flipside, we have heard from some developers that the 8GB of memory found in PlayStation Neo isn't quite enough to get the most out of 4K displays.

Where does this leave PlayStation 4K Neo?
It's a remarkable turnabout. A good portion of PlayStation 4's success has been down to its spec advantage over Xbox One, combined with a focus on the hardcore player. Sony's technological advantage will be gone with the next wave of hardware - we already know that it cannot support true 4K resolution on cutting-edge games, because we've seen the internal documents that outline Sony's upscaling strategies for 4K display support (more on that soon). It's also unfeasible for Sony to produce a radically revised Neo - the silicon has been designed, developer kits have gone out. Matching Scorpio would require scrapping Neo's existing processor completely.

Just about the only option available to Sony is the route Microsoft chose for Xbox One in the face of PS4's higher specification - overclocking the processor. It could inch the Neo a little closer to the target Scorpio spec, but hitting 6TF there is off the table: Sony would need a 40 CU Polaris 10 clocked at 1.2GHz to hit the same level. And that wouldn't address the 100GB/s bandwidth deficit or the 4GB memory gap we suspect will separate Neo and Scorpio.

You should probably add this info to the op @jalamanta

Mass production hasn't started yet on the NEO OR Scorpio so until NEO specs are officially announced we'll see.

I do think NEO was gonna drop early next year, but now? I think it's getting pushed back due to Scorpio. Can't say I'm mad though, but it would have been nice to have 1080p60 sooner rather than later.

Doesn't work like that. Chips have already been selected and designed. Dev kits are already out. Upscaling instructions have already been given to devs.

Only thing possible at this point is an up-clock, or else they'd be starting over and it would take more than a couple month delay.

Remember the doubling of the system memory for the PS4 due to complaints and that was later in the game than the current roadmap. But again that's only if Sony is willing to push the NEO back to late 2017. I do think they wanted to get it out earlier than that though (early next year)

Just think if MS didn't say shyt about Scorpio until early next year and the NEO was already in mass production (PS4 wasn't in mass production until after the announcement in Feb 2013). Wait until it was too late to do anything then you hit em. They wouldn't have undercut the One S and they would have a noticeably stronger machine to combat the NEO.

...are you just defining a flagship game as a Naughty Dog game? :heh:

God of War is dropping along with two new first party AAA IPs.
God of War 4 better get all the TLC it suppose to get If they weren't sure about a 2017 date I hope they dont rush it just to get it out.

Horizon could be a big deal tho.

By flagship I mean something that's big that people are familiar with and look forward too.

Adding ram is not the same as changing the entire GPU.

They said GoW was coming in 2017, game looked close to being done at E3.

I know that's not the same. The point was that things can be changed.

The con would obviously be pushing back the release of the NEO to re-engineer it. Is Sony willing to do it? And more importantly, can you still do this while offering the console at a reasonable price because as it stands right now even with Scorpio, those expecting 4k60 for 400 or even 500 bucks are kidding themselves.

A 4k60 console that can handle AAA games at that resolution with a console like price of 400-500 dollars? It's just REALLY hard to see that.

Well obviously anything could happen. Point is it's not feasible at this point.

No one said anything about 60fps.

As always devs on console will pick whatever specs suit them. Battlefield will probably be 2k 60fps. GTA will be 4k 30fps.

Why can't it be feasible if the system gets pushed back? That's what would need to happen.

I do agree that 4k30 would be more realistic, but WTF is 2k? :wtf:
