Can they convince MS leadership to take that kinda hit though? But if they can pull that off at 399, they can absolutely get America again.

i think phil can and has the price locked in already. here's an interview with some key stuff about the business of the console and price point:

On importance price point of console:

While people in the industry focus a lot on the power and performance of Scorpio, which I'm very proud of, I can tell you as someone who sees the numbers on what's selling, price point is the most important thing about consoles being sold. So the fact that we were able to announce Xbox One S at $299 I think will be in many ways as important if not more important to the install base of Xbox One. Both of those things are really important. I think in the industry it's really important to think "power power power," but price is very very important. Even today, we announced the original Xbox One at a promotional price of $279. And I think that's a great opportunity for people to buy it.

On console business plan:

For us in the console [industry], the business is not selling the console. The business is more of an attached business to the console install base. So if you're an Xbox One customer and you bought that console 3 years ago, I think you're a great customer. You're still using the device. That's why we focus on monthly active users. That's actually the health of our ecosystem because it's really you want this large install base of people that are active in your network buying games, playing games. That's the actual judge of the health. Not somebody who buys a console and puts it in the closet. That's actually a horrible customer for us because we probably paid money actually, subsidized the console and nothing ever happens with it. So our model's not really built around selling you a new console every one or two years. The model is almost the exact opposite. If I can keep you with the console you have, keep you engaged in buying and playing games, that's a good business.

i think xbox would've been a lot better if phil handled it from the beginning.

Good shyt. But let's not act like Phil wasn't in the room when the original XB1 vision was being crafted.

I do agree with him regarding the monthly active users to an extent. Problem is you can't completely discount offline cats which is one thing Sony doesn't (and can't afford to be honest) to do. Sony sells too many systems to offline cats or cats with poorer internet structure throughout the world.

But again, it's good to hear that he has price in mind. 499 seems realistic, but prob is still too high. 399 is the perfect price to debut, so hopefully they can make that happen.

400$ would be a great price but for me, this is all good news for gamers regardless of the price for neo and scorpio. there's gonna be an option for enthusiasts and casuals so no one will really be left behind. what a time to be a gamer :blessed:

i really wanna see what sony has in store now. microsoft revealing scorpio might be a good thing for sony. they can adjust neo to what gamers like/dislike about scorpio.

The reason they came out with the 2TB model is to test and see how the market will react to it. How it sells throughout this year leading to E3 2017 is what will ultimately determine what the Scorpio will launch at.

No way in hell is the PS4 10x more powerful than the PS3. I can look at the games and say that confidently.

10x is a MAJOR cyse man.

edit: I'm reading some of these articles stating it's 10 to even 16x more powerful. Doesn't look like it to me or I'm expecting too much.
This is what I am trying to get across to @Kuwka_Atcha_Ratcha

It can be a 40X leap on paper and it won't feel like a huge jump anymore because the "leaps" are in things that the eye cannot see.

For example in something like GTA V you clearly see how good the game looks, but the real gains outside of the visuals in how smooth things are in terms of loading and persistence.

The Scorpio/NEO better consider jumping to an SSD at launch because that will be a huge leap in terms of the user experience. Fallout 4 and some of those big ass games load like shyt...it gets too damn slow after a while and hurts the overall experience.

breh I get your logic, really do

but these machines sometimes can't even handle a simple 30fps without dipping, and a lot of games cant even reach native 1080p

Up until the PS4 slaughtered them in sales and has likely sold twice as many units as they have in the same time minus a week or so they were cool talking console sales. It's industry standard practice to put console sales on quarterly reports as well. Even Nintendo who just put out a failure of a console still list sales numbers.

Let's be real here they stopped putting the numbers out because it looked bad and if they were in Sony's position that whole only list MAU on their reports thing likely wouldn't have happened.

Phil is a good talker but anyone with common sense can see through bullshyt like that.

It's true that's why there merging with PC because they know the Xbox console brand by itself ain't shyt. I honestly think in the next few years Microsoft is just going to be strictly PC and say fukk consoles eventually.

i agree with why microsoft stopped putting out console numbers, but i think Phil was just talking about how companies make most of their money from software and subscriptions rather than console sales.
