Dre might ride the Kendrick hype to finish Detox. We know they've recorded dozens of songs together...and none of them appeared on GKMC. Where else would they go?
But it's not all about timing and hype. It's about having classic songs. 2001 wasn't perfect. But it had classic songs.
I think Dre was hoping Kush & I Need A Doctor would hit like Still Dre & Forgot About Dre...but they didn't.
Also, if they've been recording for a decade, I'm guessing the sound of the Detox sessions is all over the place, and there are dated references / flows / guest rappers (Bishop Lamont, Stat Quo, etc.) We could make an album from the leaks so far, and it's alright, but nothing special.
I hope Dre scraps the vocals on his best Detox Sessions beats, and throws Black Hippy all over them. They should dominate, like Snoop on the first, and Hittman on the second. Add some Snoop, Ice Cube, WC, Xzibit, Crooked I, Royce da 5'9", MC Eiht, DJ Quik, Too Short, Dogg Pound, Devin The Dude, unreleased Nate Dogg hooks, unreleased pre-Encore Eminem verses, some Jay-Z ghostwriting, and one verse from Hittman, out of pity.
