Recession coming. Supposed to be a bad one. This time it’s gonna he blamed on student debt, etc., and they’re gonna clean out alotta the cushy tech positions and send em to India and everywhere else they been sending them.
There’s a reason places like target and some fast food places are going to 15 an hr.

The reason I asked is because right now, i'm an IT Tech, but I'm studying software engineering on the side, with the goal of switching to that side in the next year or two.

But one question that keeps creeping into the back of my mind, as i'm getting deeper into it, is how long before the market gets saturated and these 6 figure gigs become 30k gigs.

Right now they're saying something like 70% of software engineering jobs is unfilled, and that market is going to be booming for the foreseeable future, but I'm not stupid.

Everything you need to know to become a software engineer is available for free online, all it takes is discipline, time, and a strong work ethic to get the skills, and I know millions of folks have switched to the same goal as mine.

Added to that is the fact that they are already trying to program robots to write code way quicker and more efficient than any human, so how long before that market becomes saturated and we start pricing each other out, fighting over crumbs.

Yeah, but I grew up seeing my dad working multiple jobs to pay the bills. Coming in at 2:30 after 8 hours putting his clothes to work his second job because the money he made at one job could not pay all the bills. He moved to the U.S at 40 years old.
One of the reason I take studying very seriously (well my folks emphasized education early on) and am always studying in demand skills because I know how tough it is out there. I grocery shop late and see people doing soul crushing jobs I just go home to focus on bettering myself.

I don't know how people make it nowadays. :what:In my state, you need to make at least 50k to afford a one bedroom apartment. But what if you have a car note, car insurance and student loans on top of that? :jbhmm: Which you probably have because what job paying at least 50k doesn't require a degree? Unless you happen to have the gift of gab for sales or went to trade school which too many people don't do because too many Americans think they are too good to work with their hands. Also, in a lot of areas, public transit sucks. The way public transit is set up is also often racist and classist as public transit in rich areas with concentrations of Section 8 is horrible. I never knew how unreliable public transit in my town was until my car broke down a month ago. And the only place the bus goes is to the downtown mall area where jobs pay less than $10 an hour. :ohhh:

Also, applying for jobs online is like playing the lottery. Literally hundreds to thousands of people applying for a position that is filled internally by an employee reference.

If you don't have money already, chances are you're gone stay broke. Jobs that don't even pay a living wage expect you to have a place to stay damn near rent free and a reliable car plus an expensive college degree where you most likely learned no real job skills. I don't knock young nikkas hustling instead of working low paying dead end jobs. :yeshrug:But that answers the question of why millions of black men are locked up in the new slavery of the prison industrial complex. If you have a good job you should consider yourself lucky.

I feel like white people are more likely to have a middle class lifestyle their whole life because white collar white people literally get paid more than everyone else just by showing up and being white without breaking a sweat. :smugbiden:All of the :mjpls: in this thread leads me to believe that the Coli is more cac'd out then I thought.

Not gonna happen anytime soon. The supply isn't enough outweight the demand of work for mid to higher ranks. Entry level is saturated since it's very costly to get someone new on aboard so there are less positions to start with then to end with. :yeshrug: There could be a lot of applicants, but barely any are actually qualified to do the work. They are just chasing money.

On the topic of recession, the more specialized/valuable your skills are the less likely you'll get canned.

Walked in Dollar Tree and I could physically feel my soul leaving my body:damn: Couple employees was arguing and ole girl didn't give a damn about getting in trouble, like she was legit tired. And at the end of the day they go home smelling like grease or old people musk:wow: It be some nice looking ladies of some of those fast food joints too, probably waiting on a man to pick them up.

I know everybody circumstances ain't the same, but folks gotta do something. Sell drugs, play basketball, anything to leave that spot. I used to work at Walmart and boy I tell you the struggle was real, ya boy was hanging on by a thread.:wow: Y'all know how many times I clocked in 1 hour late or took 2 hour lunches. I used to carry the walkie with me so when i was chillin outside I could be on the listen out:mjgrin: This one old lady was sitting at the table sighed and randomly said "I'm gonna die here":mjlol:

For real though I be nice to all of them because I know the struggle.
It’s sad. This lady at my local Burger King be trying to steal my couple dollars of change when I go thru the drive through. bytch says bye and everything. First time she got me. bytch tried it again and I didn’t noticed until after I drove off since the change was only 1.70 . I ran up in there and this bytch tried to play stupid. It was so
Petty I didn’t even call her out. Just for my changed and walked out. Pitiful life :wow:

Thanks for the reassurance, breh.

Breh really had me sitting here reevaluating my whole life and all of my plans.

One thing from your post that really stuck out to me was the specialization part, because I have been hearing that same thing from the youtube folks i'm subscribed to...

"Don't try and be a jack of all trades when it comes to programming, find your language/niche, front end or back end, and become an expert at it"

Can you negotiate the hours? Or are the hours you want far out of the norm?

Either way it wouldn't hurt to try since you don't seem too invested in the job.
