Cartridge era was the WOAT....paid $85 for MK1 for genesis for my birthday... aint have another high priced game after that in years...until I got PS1...
Manufacturing cost
Due to complex manufacturing processes, cartridge-based games are more expensive and difficult to manufacture than their optical counterparts. PlayStation CD-ROMs reportedly cost $1 to manufacture, while cartridges for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System cost $15 and Nintendo 64 cartridges reportedly cost more than $30.
Publishers had to pass these higher expenses to the consumer and as a result, Nintendo 64 games tended to sell for higher prices than PlayStation games. While most PlayStation games rarely exceeded US$50, Nintendo 64 cartridges could reach US$79.99, such as the first pressing of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Games in Sony's line of PlayStation Greatest Hits budget line retailed for US$19.95, while Nintendo's equivalent Player's Choice line retailed for US$29.95. In the United Kingdom, Nintendo 64 games were priced £54.95 at their time of release, while PlayStation games were priced at £44.95. In the United States, the typical price of a third-party game was around US$75.99 in the system's first year on the market, though this dropped incrementally after Nintendo reduced wholesale prices on the cartridges.

Gas maybe cheap but a value meal at a fast food restuarant will cost you about $10Your argument doesn’t hold up. Gas is cheaper than ever and wages are stagnant.
It’s not about being “ready”..It’s a shame to see that some of us brothers clearly aren’t prepared for the next generation.
