The Wrong Side of the Tracks
3 years ago, on Jan 5, 2020, the Department of Zoonoses at the National Institute of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention) announced the isolation of a new Coronavirus responsible for a wave of respiratory illnesses. On Jan 30, WHO declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Despite many efforts to learn from the pandemic during the past 3 years, and discussions on international treaties of pandemic preparedness, the global response remains inadequate and fragmented. In 2023, far from it being the end of the pandemic (as hoped by many and announced for the USA by President Biden in September last year), there is a new, dangerous phase that requires urgent attention.

There is strong and consistent evidence for the effectiveness of masks and (even more so) respirators in protecting against respiratory infections. Masks are an important protection against serious infections.

Current COVID vaccines protect against death and hospitalisation, but do not prevent infection well due to waning vaccine immunity and substantial immune escape from new variants.
Fam :why:

1- You just replied with an article that, again, talks about masks—-en mass, being worn by hundreds of people—- preventing THE SPREAD. That is NOT the same as the odds of you yourself wearing a mask and contracting it when no one else is wearing one. Do you understand the difference?

2- Common sense pro tip: when you see a passage like this:

The question of whether and to what extent face masks work to prevent respiratory infections such as COVID and influenza has split the scientific community for decades.

That is the most professional way the government or any medical professional will tell you: WE DONT fukkING KNOW

All science is not consensus. Go tweet your Achilles, you could go natural or get surgery. YOUR call. People with cancer, chemo works best for some, natural works better for others. YOUR call. Some shyt there is a case by case basis applied, it’s the best information they have at the time, educated guess, etc. Yes, even science

3- I have no idea why you bolded and underlined that as if it’s saying anything. I’M the one who earlier said the vaccine does not prevent you from catching it. So thank you for proving my point.

@Dafunkdoc_Unlimited ??? Tf you gon say now.

Edit; wait that’s you making this post :dead:Ngga you just said vaccine DOES prevent infection 2 pages ago lmao Can’t make this shyt up

Which again goes to point #2! If there’s so much conflicting info, it’s a flashing red sign ‘hey dummy we gave you a h by inch of info make your own call’

You don't understand the argument. Since the masks PREVENT infection, there is less chance of the disease spreading.

As stated in the article.....
Face masks and respirators work in two ways: they protect the wearer from becoming infected and they prevent an infected wearer from spreading their germs to other people.

This is 'common sense'. Masks prevent infection. Not wearing one is your choice.

Bruh! Even the vaccine isn’t made to stop you from catching Covid! It mitigates or eliminates symptoms.

So a mask DEFINITELY ain’t made to stop you from catching it. My goodness
Masks, N95 or otherwise, aren’t 100% effective against preventing catching COVID, but your logic is faulty. How a vaccine works and how masks work have nothing to do with each other, lol.

Regular masks are minimally effective but they do still lower the risk of catching COVID, though marginally. N95 masks are more effective than regular masks but it’s still possible to catch it with one on.

I can't refuted this argument so I'll post a gif.
You just omitted this word and everything after it....
do not prevent infection
well
due to waning vaccine immunity and substantial immune escape from new variants.
Underlined the main word and increased the size so you can't overlook it....again....and bolded the rest of the statement so your statement is falsified.

So, again, the vaccines DO prevent infection.

So do masks.

This is not debatable although you'll keep trying.
