Yao Ming is a 1st ballot HOFer? Ahead of Chris Webber? Really? The NBA is a f*cking joke...

When has that ever mattered? A beast is a beast and Webber was a beast. When ever they post a list of major games by a big, Webber is always in there. He need sto be in, and I think he will eventually.

I HATE that "impact" is now a major accomplishment, and more herald than actual numbers.
it's mattering right now apparently

It should be noted that as a contributor he could have gotten in much earlier. Yao wanted to wait it out though which is why it took this long

He had a great, albeit short, prime where he was getting you 22/10. The talent was there, the NBA career simply wasn't long enough in this day and age to merit getting into the HOF, but when you factor his entire body of work as a player and more importantly as a contributor to basketball he absolutely deserves to be in.

Axe starbury what yao did for him. Star would be laying in a ditch if yao didn't bring the nba to China. Jeremy Lin wouldn't even exist

agreed 100%

yao ming is a first ballot hofer but not webber?

tf?

NO NO NO! My fault for not clarifying. I also agree that Yao was a 1st ballot. He was a beast as well. He earned it, even with a career riddled by injuries.

I think Grant Hill is one too, maybe not 1st ballot. Not Penny, Derrick Rose ehhhhh

It always mattered. It can be the difference between being a 1st ballot hall of famer, and a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th ballot.

I'm not saying C-Webb isn't deserving of the hall. Not only will he get in, he absolutely deserves to get in as well. But there is a reason why he wasn't a 1st ballot HOFer.

I hope he gets in soon. I don't want them to pull a Bernard King on him, who was, imho, a great player, but had to wait a long time finally get in the hall.

I think it gets too wishy-washy when they talk about impact over numbers. Let's take a player like Reggie. They only show highlights of 1 game, he's a 5x all-star that didn't pass, rebound, create on shot, play defense and wasn't really a scorer as they were viewed in his era. His W% against the Knicks was like 30% and his playoff record is 3-3, but his career is overvalued. Or the talk of Robert Horry getting in for being a role player that basically did his job. Then there's not even talk of Grant Hill getting in when he was Lebron before Lebron, with Triple doubles at a better clip. for me, if they want to make it about impact, cool...but they keep switching it up based on the players they want to get in at any time.

Yao's going in off impact

It's not the NBA Hall of Fame, its the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame.

And yes, Yao being the bridge for basketball to China and having a fairly decent NBA career puts him in.

So Yao Ming is justified being in the Basketball Hall of Fame because of his race? That's ludicrous. No other sport inducts people based on this metric and basketball shouldn't either. The Basketball Hall of Fame has no legitimacy now that it is inducting players based on their race and popularity--and not based on their actual ability and achievements.

Reggie is actually a great example. If you recall, a lot of people were surprised to learn that he didn't get in on his first try. However, once one looks at Reggie's career, it isn't too surprising.

C-Webb, imo, is in a similar position. Granted, I think C-Webb is a better player than Miller. However, like Reggie he'll make the hall, just not in his first or second try. He def better make it by the third or fourth though.

He's not going in because of his race, but his impact on the global game.

Nothing we can do bout that :manny:

Yao Ming's impact on the global game reduces down to his race and popularity so that's a distinction without a difference. You have no argument.
