What are you even talking about, it wasn't like Kanye purposely limited the number ...
And you can't say that they sell because they're limited, not definitely. Just say YOU believe they sell because they're limited, because the Yeezy 1's are hot as fukk and something like the Solars would sell regardless.
Every release of his shoe has been limited. Put them shyts up as a general release and then you will know for a fact whether they are hot or not. We all know that the simple fact that something is limited drives the hype factor. Ive seen plenty of cases where people wait until they see the release type of a shoe before they decide if they are going to buy it or not. If a shoe was legit nice it wouldnt matter if it was a GR, QS, Urban Account, Jordan Account, etc.....
Nike has been doing this limited shyt for years and im willing to bet that when Kanye had his first shoe he was cool with that.
From a business perspective if you make X amount of pairs and they sellout instantly, you make more. You don't sit back and watch them resell for $8000 on eBay unless you didn't want someone to succeed
Its not about Nike not wanting someone to succeed. They are doing this more and more now. Even for shoes that arent affiliated with anyone, if they think a color is nice its damn near guaranteed to not be a general release.

We don't wear Nighkes. We wear Keds, moccasins, and Wallabees.
