As much as it pains me to say, most black people don't want to see those sort of movies and those that do don't want to see ones with poor production values.

That's why so many black movies are hood/comedy/romance. You really only have to pay for actors and locations. No stunts, special F/X etc. And when you're on a budget, that matters.

Of course it hasn't stopped Uganda from having a robust straight to DVD market.

true but every college campus got white independent film makers that get supported/funded

we gotta start somewhere my nikka

I support a black female short horror film maker on youtube faithfully every yr. She write/direct some of the best short films Ive ever seen imo.

But because of funds and not getting as much support, she hasnt made any in a while.

Once I find her youtube channel, I'll post some.

Now hold up :whoa:

Here me out, as a young black adult, growing up the movies I preferred to watch were horror, sifi, action/adventure, mystery type of movies. Only issue is, these movies rarely ever had a full black cast or at least 1 black character in it.

Yet movies about drama, issues plaguing the black community, depressing bios etc. were plentiful....Now wait, I dont have any issues with these types of movies being made because I am aware of the many struggles that existed (and still do) with our ancestors and grandparents etc in this world.

But why isnt there many movies made with a full black cast in genres like horrors, sifis, action/adventure, and mystery type movies made?

This is the exact reason I'm going into entertainment law.

It's my dream to be a powerful Hollywood Producer. I spend lots of time waiting for orders from my boss (I work for a talent management firm), but she knows that I have huge goals and plan to put my legal expertise to use as best I can so I can really produce a string of powerful and influential movies in order to positively stilt the cultural landscape of the American movie industry. Just imagine it: the power to have sway over the subconscious of millions of people at the same time. The power to persuade people to give up their prejudice, shrug off old preconceived notions about people they thought they had figured out, etc.

It's an industry that is undeniably important and cannot be ignored. It is also full of issues that need to be addressed by the right teams of people to positively affect how people see the rest of the world. I know that people have been doing this for decades by forming groups that focus on the entertainment ventures of various ethnic/racial groups. That's all well and good, but I'd love to go for mainstream control. My favorite success stories are people that managed to forge media empires from virtually nothing in order to do this. I want to join there ranks. The money is decent motivation, but I have a different motivation than most others that decide to go down this path.

Yes, it sounds like a gigantic pipe dream. I don't care. Every great accomplishment sounds like a gigantic pipe dream at first.

Okay, I really need to study now. I've had way too much internet today.

Yes there is, but most of them are dramas. And the occasional Tyler Perry films (scust)

Why arent the more films like I Am Legend or Snakes on The Plane?

They thought Act Like A Woman,Think Like A Man wouldnt do good either :ld:

RomComs always do good. They are the second best genre. Scifi and horror are the least profitable and lowest grossing. There also really aren't that many of either of those genres in mainstream film either.

If it had an all black cast it wouldn't make it to the big screen though...

Believe that
Who knows? Have anyone ever tried it? NOPE!

Well I'm not talking about just sifi and horror, I'm talking about thriller/action films as well. But either way, just because they dont do as well as other genres doesnt mean they shouldnt be made. There have been tons of silver screen horror films with white cast in the last decade that did horrible! :merchant:

I don't think a all black cast horror film would be too entertaing for non black folks.

Look at Halloween Resurrection for example, the two black dudes in the movie tried to shoot the fair one with Micheal Myers, keep in mind most people think that most black men are these super tough :birdman: type dudes.

In the white community its more exceptble for a man to be all :merchant:/:to:/:sadbron: or to run when the killer in a horror movie is trying to kill them.

Again, Action films = terribly high budgets. Thriller = Horror. Same thing. Generally not a black audience for this.
