Yo, Can A Stroke Change Your Accent???

Im watching Untold: Christy Martin on Netflix and I'm like "why the hell does this rural Virginian sound like she from New Jersey?"

They show her parents, friends, and clips from her when she has young. They all have that same hick accent.

Then they get to the part in the story where she has a stroke (spoilers)... and the next scene they show of her talking post stroke she has a completely different accent... completely



Brethren... is this possible?

well some stroke victims have to re-learn how to talk, so yeah, I'm sure it can change your voice/accent.

i wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with whoever is giving you speech therapy in your rehab/recovery +/- brain damage

Certainly, langauge and speech are greatly affected from a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) such as stroke, concussion, aneurysm, etc.

Now changing a BK accent to a Texas Twang? Idk....but when relearning language after a TBI you are reflexively mimicking your therapist/counselor's dialect....

It's common when having a stroke, it's called Foreign Accent Syndrome

shocked me, I had no idea children could get it
