You gotta put your child's future into consideration when naming them.

I have an "ethnic" name, and I'm proud of it. I'll give my kids "ethnic" names because I feel they're special. I'll be damned if I'll ever pretend to give a fukk about white folks who don't want me working for them anyway, whether my name is Dontavious or David

That started in the late 70's to reclaim our original African names
nikka i am african, how the fukk are these names african in origin :dahell:, what country do those names represent?

african name have actual and literal meanings behind them infact most names do, these name are just made up for the sole purpose of trying to be "different" or "unique" with no actual meaning behind them both figuratively and literally

I don't see anything wrong with that. They have meaning to the person who named their child

Lol the only meaning a "name" has is what a person gives it and pretty much all of them are bullshyt except the ones that described a persons line of work or where they came from:russ:

Go on Google images and type a black name in the search box. Watch a picture of a mugshot pop up but if you type a white name you'll see nothing but smiling happy people. Google on that cism and you ain't even know it.

Coli breh names his son "Conner".

Conner grows up and is called for an interview

He arrives at the interview and his interviewer is a Middle-aged white man.

The white man expecting a white person tells Conner "Sorry that the position has been filled"

This thread is about names black people give their children, why should she even have an opinion? When is she going to have black kids and have to name them? Maybe adoption? This is like a black issue where we can be for, against it, or whatever. Why do white people always need to interject? Their opinions are irrelevant.

I hate people who give their sons feminine names like Kelly and Courtney :scusthov:
Stacey too

That is very true. They were all made up at SOME point. But again it's one thing if i wanna be defiant and say fukk it im gonna name said child what i wanna name it. It's another thing when I, the adult naming said child am aware of the additional layer of racism/discrimination/judment while thin, that I bring upon said child by giving him that name. Remember im not gonna have to face the challenges. HE, that innocent child, Will.

Again im not saying that 'traditional names' that we know today didnt go through this when they were made up. But in this cruel world we live in breh i'd rather not give my child this headache. I'll give him a traditional african name or something. But im not gonna be pulling some dumb sounding sh!t out of thin air or naming the kid Henessey. NO

Thats the logic white supremacy wants you to adopt when the reality is that the game is rigged no matter how far you go to please them. Naming a Black child something Anglo will not help them avoid the headaches of institutional racism, breh. If everyone who named their kids something "safe" and left it up to cacs to allow them through the gates instead actively built for their kids then this concern would be severely mitigated.

Note: I said id name my child a traditional african name.

Not Anglo. Not Francophone. I'd rather himt his name have a root. See my first post in this thread about how people judging people and even kids based on their name isnt strictly a USA thing. http://www.thecoli.com/posts/19550402/ Haitians makeup names too. THose that get the made-up name that sound dumb get clowned and ridiculed. But those that have a (for example) african name are not likely to be ridiculed. Doesnt have to be a european name to get respect. But if your sh!t sounds like your mom and dad made it up... Thou shall be clowned
