I like how he phrased it, "You have to play a sport." I can dig that, what I don't like are parents forcing kids into a specific sport or extra-curricular activity so that the parent is interested in it and wants to live vicariously thru their kids.
Make your kids do extra-curricular activities but let them pick what it is.

He sounds like a tool. You support guide and support your children's passion. It's not about having a second crack at life through them.

Most kids will take an interest in some physical sport, some instrument so it shouldn't be challenging.

You are the curator. ......you introduce them to as many options as you are able and they will choose from what they like most from amongst the options. They are more likely to be interested in whatever you are interested in so take heed. Make sure they finish what they start, never allow them to quit once they have committed.

This isnt the 90s anymore. Most kids WONT take an interest in sports or the arts. I had this conversation with my exwife when we were planning for a family. I wont decide what our kid will do recreationally but we will guide them. Example being, you MUST play an instrument. I wont choose what instrument for you but its a requirement in our household that you do. Same goes with sports. You can play what you want but you gonna play something and do so seriously.

The things you learn at an early age brings a level of discipline and values that will translate in life. It also helps generate a work ethic, helps a child be sociable and gives them experience about respecting adults outside the home and so much more intangible shyt. It sets real goals for kids early and gives them something to achieve. WTF kind of goals do modern day kids even have for themselves if they arent involved in the arts or athletics. They just want to hop on the game or sit on social media watching OTHER people live.

If they aren't smart enough to make good decisions or not be constantly hand-held or at least learn from any situation, you're losing

Advice is not entirely wrong, but can lead to unfortunate disaster down the line if the kids are reliant on their parent telling them what to do.

Gotta have some balance - play a sport, work on an art, study STEM. They can decide where their interests lie in those arenas, and after a certain age, let them freeball it but within reason.

somewhat understandable - - some shyt is non-negotiable (people skills, self defense, boxing, going outside and touching grass, critical thinking, listening to reasonable doubt from start to finish, etc.), some things you can meet your kids half way with, you gotta let them think for themselves when they reach a certain age

No. You are wrong.

Most kids will lean towards sports and instruments. One of the things I'm learning isn't that parental laziness is being blamed on children.

Parents find it easiest to stick a tablet in their kid's hand. Parents worry less when their kid is where they can see them. Because of that, they their interests stem from the tablet.
