Rodman knew how to play within an offense, he just didn't take any shots. He was a good passer, could run the floor for a dunk, and even took the occasional 3 for shyts and giggles. I'd rather have that than someone who's exceptional on offense, but can't play defense nor knows how to play defense.

Rodman. Energy, defense and hustle are the hardest things to find. Of course he depends on others to do the scoring, but how many games did Love win while scoring? Right. Both have flaws they need others to cover for, but it's easier to find scoring than it is to find defense.
What?

The heat found energy, defense and hustle by signing some crackhead to vet min deal

If you seriously believe that, then you dont know basketball. Finding a hustle player is WAY easier then finding a big that can score (and avg 26)

I want someone to create a championship team with Rodman as the best player :russ:

I can come up with a starting 5 with Love, as the best, that'd easily be a championship level squad.

Wall
Dragic
Iggy
Love
Noah

Now create a damn squad right now, with Rodman as the BEST PLAYER.

Rodman being a better 3rd option on a championship squad DOESN'T make him better player than Love.

It's as stupid as saying Diaw is a better player than Bosh because he worked better in his role than Bosh did as a 3rd option.
Mike Conley
Eric Gordon
Khawi Leonard
Dennis Rodman
Brook Lopez

I could've named better players, but didn't wanna get into the argument of Rodman not being better than so and so. Rodman is a Hall of Famer for a reason.

You mean Birdman? Funny because a guy like Rodman would've had a huge impact against the Spurs with his versatility on D.

Anyway if it's so easy to find enegry, defense and hustle, why is it that a lot of teams don't have it?

Again, imo what Love brings to the table taht Rodman doensn't (scoring) is more easily replaceable than what Rodman bring to teh table that Love doesn't (energy, hustle, defense, etc.).

Rodman is like the last offensive option on that team. I guarantee if that team won a championship, Rodman wouldn't get a single damn FMVP vote.

I came in here thinking Rodman no question,

But if you put Dennis Rodman on these terrible Wolves teams that Love has been on, do any of those teams now make the playoffs? :patrice:
NO they don't.

But no one would be building a team around Rodman, he'd be a piece to a puzzle.

I would not build my team around Kevin Love. Offense can be found...Elite Defense, that "game winning" defense can't be found every day.

If I'm building my team around a superstar...I want Rodman in that mix before K. Love.

The obvious response is depending on who I have on my team. Both are elite rebounders but are very different despite that.

Rodman's defense completey blows out Love's. There's no contest really, Rodman's intensity and potentially defending every position/type of player on the court was crazy whereas K-Love is a mediocre at best defender. It was his bread and butter, unlike Love. While I also give him the edge on the boards, Love is no slouch either and would have even better numbers if he was a more dedicated rebounder. Also, Rodman played in elite defensive teams, sure, he was one of the main reasons but still played witha great defensive Detroit team, DPOY D-Rob and a great defensive team in Chicago as well. Also played with offensive superstars that could cover his lack of offense : Zeke/Dumars/Dantley/Aguirre in Detroit, D-Rob in SA and Jordan/Pippen in Chicago. Love never had a Ben Wallace/Mutombo defensive presence to cover for him and the best player he played with is Al Jefferson. It should be noted that both plays the same position (even tho Big Al could pass for a 5) and it was during the start of his career.

Offensively, the difference is too big to ignore. Love can give you 20+ any given night while Rodman's best PPG season was under 12, and he was only the 6th best scorer in his team. Having Rodman usually meant you played 4 vs 5 on offense and he had to compensate for that on the other side.

Good write-up. I somewhat disagree with the last assertion because Rodman's ability to move the ball, set good picks and offensive rebound at a crazy rate meant that he contributed on the offense. Not necessarily by scoring (even though he would get tip-ins) but that's not the only way one can contribute on offense. If you look at a guy like Joakim Noah, his career average is 9.9 pts per game. Rodman is at 7.3. Yet no one says that playing with Noah is like playing 4 vs 5.
