A lot of ya’ll posting in here are older and took this as an opportunity to shyt on my generation and I can tell.
It ain’t really about trying to live above your means or being able to stunt on IG. Most people are off that these days anyway, IG doesn’t really mean much to most people in my age group (mid to late 20s/early 30s) anymore. TikTok is where it’s at now for my generation and “flexing” ain’t really part of that app’s culture like it was on IG.
It mostly has to do with the fact that many of us work several jobs and are just trying to survive. “Hustle culture” is real.
I’m fortunate enough to not be in that predicament, but I know plenty of people within my age range from all types of backgrounds that are.
Most of the people I know are working 2 jobs just to survive, and these are people WITH degrees. Some are even STEM, many are not making as much starting out as they believed that they would because Nap’s people will do it for less.
People without degrees are working 2 jobs and then doing Uber or GrubHub in their spare time. Also, throw in the fact that many of us had our early adulthoods interrupted by COVID and that set many of us back financially and in our careers.
So, it’s not even about the money per se, it’s about time and energy. You got guys working 60+ hours weekly, you think they’re trying to “hang out” when they could be sleeping?
Only guys that I know who are chilling right now are in the military. Those brehs are living it up and I sometimes kick it with them.
