when ny nikkas was calling southern rappers lame, and then jacking our slang 
I live in NYC and know a handful of journalists and bloggers.
Basically all of them know each other well and hang out together from mainstream ones like NYT (this dude Jon Caramanica) to hipster media like Complex and Noisey/Vice and it's just that they're trying to one up each other on some "I was on it first" shyt.
I wouldn't say Young Thug's plant without concrete evidence but I definitely know that these guys are living in some isolated silo of their own blogger circle and don't 100% know or represent the 'real world' at all. I wouldn't be surprised if some industry exec found Young Thug and groomed him into a thugged out druggy southern gay version of Lil B, either.
Young Thug is basically ironic, hipster, tumblr rap.
The weirder and more outrageous they are, the more coverage they'll get from those guys.

Alot of people here where jocking him before the questionable instagram photos and he's been grinding for a minute before the hype. Don't see what the big deal is honestly.

I highly doubt there's even one NY nikka employed by the NY times, let alone calling the shots
There are tons of non-ironic, not geared towards hipster/tumblr crowd rap out now.
I don't even feel like listing them.
That said, not saying there's anything wrong with tumblr rap.
It is what it is.
However, it'd be naive to say his recent media exposure has been purely based on his musical merits.
Like I said, I know these people firsthand and know that it's more of a novelty/irony thing than anything else.
Young Thug and his team is doing a great job exploiting that lane.
I know the same group of kids that go to 285 Kent and shyt? Name the rap that isn't ironic. Last I checked, Asap, Drake, Future, Action Bronson, etc all fall in that category.
why are you trying to illegitimize his music? why does he have to be a novelty? people don't really like it for non ironic purposes? im lost here? let me get back in my time machine to 2010 see ya later
