Do people still need a DISTRIBUTION deal in the digital age tho?!!?:what: cant muthafukkas buy songs online now in multiple languages through websites through Itunes and Amazon. Cant you print up CD's and ship them to stores if you wanted to?!!?

Distribution of music?! In a digital age?!!? :dahell::patrice: I know I'm not crazy. I figure marketing is more important.
@The HONORABLE SKJ

Platinum is platinum. If it was that easy then way more artists would be doing numbers. And you can't count on one artist to bring in money. He was running a label not managing just one artist
:patrice:I mean not really from a financial standpoint.

NO

people keep believing this lie that digital is killing hard copies....

1. last year was the FIRST AND ONLY YEAR where digital sales beat physical.... and it was by 2%.. so just selling online will make you lose about 48% of your sales... not gonna happen

2. just try walking your cd up to best buy and having them sell it for you.... then try walking it up to the 2000 best buys in america.... then multiply that by 10-20 different chain stores and all their stores.... you definitely need distribution

platinum is not platinum because you are not being paid off streams with anywhere close to the amount of money that you make off albums

selling 1 million albums vs 10 million streams.... you will ALWAYS make more as an artist and label, from actual albums

they out here paying .0000010 cents per stream and shyt

48% of the world

If they wasn't selling, they wouldn't sell them. But you go in every dept store in America and what do you see. CDs.

When it comes to video games it's still not even close. Same with movies/tv shows

That whole DD generation talk we used to have is still about 5-10 years away

Companies ain't throwing away those profits

As far as CD's go I figure it's not because alot of chain stores exist then you have to get them to carry your shyt in the stores themselves and the whole soundscan thing. But for me we're living in a digital age the old ways are played out when it comes to music alot of times... :yeshrug: what's good is all this technology if we wont utilize it. I figure with money you can always get your own cd pressing company like VP records has. They been doing alright for themselves out here in queens. :ehh:

I agree with you but I'm still like, :mindblown: these arent vinyl's man... CD's are made for digital consumption. Video games is different not everyone has access to a ISP with broadband for those speeds to download GB's of game data and shyt so it's alright if games exist on a hard copy disc.

It costs money to get your music on those platforms but a distribution deal is needed to get your music available worldwide. That shyt isn't cheap.

You can't just print up CDs and tell stores to sell them, it doesn't work like that.

It's a good deal too as its usually a 80/20 split

So how much are you paying to get your album on Itunes or Amazon... :jbhmm:

I figure the CD pressing and distribution doesnt come easy I know this but shyt people have websites where fans can buy all their music from do you really need Itunes/amazon if you have a big name and can do it yourself? There's alot of indie artists out there putting in work. I can just imagine if Kanye went independent for his next deal for a new album.

Also isnt that the whole point of living in a digital age is to spread your music from beyond the block. once your stuff is online the whole world can see it right?! :patrice:

i have to say this a lot on this board.....

you're thinking of yourself, your friends and people on here... realize you are on an internet forum, speaking with other people who are tech savvy to tech geniuses, about tech, music, movies, etc... usually talking about these things months in advance, with details from 15 different websites, interviews, video, breakdowns, discussions

this goes from music, to sports, to technology, to even fukking porn... nikkas talking bout "oooo weee that new ________ bout to drop in 16 months, here's the ceo of the company and 16 reviews and a picture

the rest of the US... and even more of the world... is still on slow internet, basic phones or don't even utilize their smartphone, don't know shyt about the inner workings of the music industry, nor when that new Nas album is going to drop, or what movie is coming out December, let alone next December, or what Dez Bryant or Codi Bryant is doing with their lives

for every one of us coli brehs with a new phone, downloading everything free, watching movies on an ipad.... there's 20 regular people, who can't figure out how to set up the damn wifi in their house, scared to put their credit card on the net, and couldn't tell you shyt about technology unless their kid comes and shows them...

and even then they just throw their hands up and say "fukk this i'll just go get the cd from the store.. i like to have it in my hand anyway"

This is a article I show artists all the time regarding distribution

Want To Know Who The Best Digital Distribution Company Is?

It's really not that much to get your album on online retailers but they take a cut of sales too

But online isn't the only way people consume music.

I mean if you got the money then you should definitely do it yourself!! But it isn't cheap.

But we're talking about a record label here at its got multiple artists, they probably don't have the money to distribute themselves
