he's not exactly wrong but if you reduce being a gentleman to just that one trait then he is.

the old school definition of a gentleman was a man born of high status who was tied to land, wealth and non-manual work. so with that there was a certain level of education attained that gave one the broad vocabulary the op is speaking about. but with that said, historically speaking, working class men could never attain the status of a gentleman. you had to be born into the higher classes to be considered one.

the modern definition focuses more on the qualities of a gentleman - respect, integrity, politeness, etc... more than the class factor. so with that definition, i wouldn't focus too much on articulation because then you start wading into the class territory and there are other factors that would, for instance, cancel out even the man in the op. which is why people need to be careful proclaiming "what is and what isn't", because while you loudly proclaiming "what is", you yourself might be someone else's "what isn't".

Idk if I would equate vocabulary to being a gentleman however, I'm not sure exactly how the creator means "gentleman."

I have a new hire who is young skinny guy. Not the strongest vocabulary but he's level headed, gracious and respectfully. I would consider him a gentleman even though he's young and not necessarily "refined."
Anybody who lives in the south knows that there are all kinds of adult men running around with less than high school educations who are essentially gentlemanly in all of the traditional ways.

He definitely has a point. But the essence of being a gentleman is simply good manners, appropriately applied.
A firm handshake, eye contact, a friendly smile in introducing/greeting, use of sir/ma'am, table etiquette, attentive listening, remembering names, offering to help, knowing when and how to leave ... are lessons turned to habits that have paid immeasurable dividends to me and my sons. All taught from an illiterate farmer/plumber grandfather from Arkansas.
RIP Pops!

Most men who are gentlemen get shytted on :russ:
These simp terminators keep leading nikkas to heartbreak and canon events:francis:
The worst thing you can do in this life is to walk in another man’s footsteps/shadow
Yes take information or advice to heed
But also practice discernment, discipline, self educate and listening to your own gut
Being able to toss around words like TI thesaurus Rex and opening doors/walking on the outside on the sidewalk doesn’t make you a gentleman nor man
