Are blacks the most elitist and excluding race? :lupe:

Or is some level of elitism and exclusion characteristic to all races? :leostare:

I'm not sure. :patrice:

It seems like black people are the quickest to disown a black person or question a black person's "blackness" based on disagreements with who that person is or choices they've made. I've heard black people's "blackness" called into question for the following reasons:

  • Dating/marrying non-black people
  • Going to college
  • Enjoying school
  • Speaking proper English grammar
  • Attending primarily-white schools
  • Living in the suburbs
  • Living in states with no major city that is populated by a significant amount of blacks
  • Believing in Jesus
  • Not believing in religion
  • Being enlisted in any branch of the US military
  • Being a member of the Republican Party
  • Voting conservatively on entitlement, public benefit, and other social programs
  • Not supporting famous black people
  • Being critical of famous black people, especially President Obama, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Floyd Mayweather
  • Not being about "that life"
  • Not hating white people
  • Listening to certain types of music--country, rock, classical
  • Wearing certain attire
  • Having a certain skin tone
  • Having a certain hair texture
  • Being homosexual
The list probably goes on...

Now, I think most of us can agree that, like most races, blacks are not a monolithic group. If we hold this to be true, why do we have such rigid and lengthy criteria for being black? :ld: Why do we question one another's ability to BE black? :ld: Why is important to exclude others from being black? :ld:

Thoughts, please.

Well you're right, people do try to deny your "blackness" based on their stupid ass opinions but it feels like you added the bolded just to stretch the list out.

:laff: @ Someone gettin their black card pulled for criticizing Mayweather tho.

Japan, but from the 989
If you don't know the feeling of being Brody in Homeland..then you aren't Black. As corny as it sounds that line pretty much sums up how being Black in America feels. If you can't relate, then you are not Black in the social sense of it. But other than if you are a straight up sell out on Hannity or Fox News...lol well..lol

I'm glad this doesn't make sense to you. However, I had friends in high school who suggested that I was trying to be white for wanting to go to college. And other friends who've suggested that school is not a black thing. Made me go :wtf:, too.
tried to tell nikkas sub categories are needed for the black community like every community on the planet. :manny:

proof in point. there's hood/ratchets and there's regular black folks.

Dont give a fukk I label accordingly, don't like it, change your hoodness and do better for yourself representing my race. :bryantshrug:

Not only is the idea of black people being exclusive BULLSHIIT. but this criteria list is the most racist, stereotypical shiit. It's so stereotypical, I am starting to think you are a white poster.

Really breh, going to college means you're not black? :what:
Really breh, enjoying school means you're not black? :what:
Really breh, speaking properly means you're not black? :what:
Really breh, not being a "thug" means you're not black? :what:
Really breh, not hating white people means you're not black? :what:

Actually, now that I think about it...yes, you DEFINITELY are a white poster...:ill:

Not really. I notice the elitist white crowd alienates the stupid redneck crowd. Being a hipster or starbucks drinker is a lot cooler than being a dumb nascar bud lite drinker. Whereas in the black american community, you clowns will totally buy into the stereotype, buy sugar and water I mean koolaid, and a bucket of chicken, just to flex the stereotype, I mean blackness.

Can tell you know nothing about us but our stereotypes. SMH

What would the outcome be if blacks were to judge your people the same way

Black people, particularly Black Americans, are raised to identify with the low social position assigned to them by the white supremacist status quo.

It's really sad to witness. I feel like an alien sometimes because I wasn't raised to internalize the myth of white supremacy. I was raise to believe that I'm better.

Honestly, this mindset we're discussing is poison.

Care to share an example or two? :ehh:
People who create threads based on the premises that black people more than likely fit into ghetto caricatures... and that black more than likely diss other blacks who do not.

And

Ward Connerly.

To flesh this out even further, because whites have made entry into stable upper middle class lifestyles so difficult for black people as a whole, while simultaneously pushing us to the margins, an obvious dysfunction has set in. Its basic psychology --- if someone or some group aggressively insults you or bars your entry into their desirable world, you are going to grow to resent that person or group. Because mainstream life is associated with being white, blacks have loudly rejected such a world largely out of hurt and frustration. Over time, as blacks have discovered more personal success as a group, these dysfunctions have subsided, but we cant divorce those constructions from the mistreatment of the dominant class.

:heh: nah, man. It doesn't mean you aren't black...

but it'll DEFINITELY get you hit with accusations of "not being black enough"

or

":umad: you must thank you white"

or

":umad: you need ta stop trying ta be like them white folks"

Add to the list stuff you read, watch or listen to,
Not automatically enjoying something just because the star/main lead or the cast is black,
Not being mad because the lead isn't black
Not wanting to replace the most popular character with a black version
