My predictions on today's starting lineup:

I see Thibs doing one of two or three things

Trots out the same SL: Elf, Burks, RJ, Randle, Noel
Makes small adjustments: Elf, Rivers, RJ, Obi, Noel
Starts with the bench unit: DSJ, Rivers, RJ, Obi, Mitch

I don't see a world RJ doesn't start or where Frank & Knox do in this game. They'd need to show it in this game unless Thibs just repeats the lineups

I think DSJ starts

The things that stood out to me between the starters and bench were:
Starters were more efficient and had more assists. Vet stuff.
Bench played way faster but had more TO's and to my eyes, better defense though it was fairly close.

I think flipping the PG's for the two units is a good way to try and balance both units. DSJ is more athletic and can play faster. Payton would hopefully keep the youngsters under control and get Obi some easy looks. The only problem I see is the defensive balance could get thrown but not if DSJ plays defense like he did in game one.

You also trade off Payton/Randle's chemistry but I don't think anyone would mind.

The starters picked up their defensive intensity after watching the bench unit wreak havoc.

Honestly moving Randle isn’t a priority. He is annoying, but short term.

Bullock, Burke, Elfrid, DSJ and Rivers are guys I would like the Knicks to trade for young players on rookie deals. They won’t net us a first, but on playoff teams with too much depth (Like the Lakers, Denver or the Celtics) they might trade a kid stuck on the bench for a ready contributor, especially if we throw in a few second rounders. We saw them do this to get Spellman and it was on the low way smarter than what the Knicks normally do. Normally the Knicks are the ones sending people away for second rounders when they have no depth anyway.

We could do some damage next year depending on what they want to do. Especially in the RFA market.

fukk all that Dubious NEEDS TO GET THE fukk OFF THIS TEAM:camby:Payton needs to be shipped back to Orlando:camby:

I don't think anyone is calling this dude the next Embiid or Joker. The most common ceiling comparisons he gets are with Gobert but better on the switch (the gap between his blocked jumpers and everyone else in the league being the reason). The frequent fouling is definitely an issue, but I also think that's the whole point of bringing in Noel who actually fouled at an even higher rate than Mitch last year.

The difference is Noel was playing for a bigger contract and he probably knew whatever he did he wasn't starting over Adams or eating his minutes, so he hunted for easy blocks and steals to. If he didn't it would be financially negligent. When Adams was injured and Noel was the starter he averaged >30 minutes. Even when he was a starter before Embiid, he averaged 30+ MPG. All this suggests he does know how to stay on the court.

Watching Mitch last season looked like he was just following his instincts for good or for bad.
