So the battle for succession to Robert Mugabe has broken out in recent weeks and it is unfortunately looking ugly. The key contenders were the Vice President and Chimurenga veteran Emmerson Mnangagwa and the wife of Mugabe (40 years younger), Grace. She is no Sally Mugabe and was formerly his secretary.

Earlier last week Emmerson Mnangagwa was sacked from being vice president and fled the country to South Africa (some also say China). He also accused Grace of trying to poison him with ice cream.:gucci:

Grace Mugabe has not been shy about throwing herself out there as some kind of natural successor to Mugabe. She has support from the youth movement but is distrusted by the military and war veterans.

So now it gets real. "Yesterday the head of the Zimbabwean military General Constantino Chiwenga told a media conference attended by at least 90 senior army officers at the army headquarters in Harare on Monday that: "The current purging which is clearly targeting members of the party with a liberation background must stop forthwith."

According to New Zimbabwe.com, Chiwenga recently returned from a trip in China to find Mnangagwa fired from government and expelled from Zanu-PF."

Today social media and diplomats confirm that armored personnel carriers were seen on the outskirts of Harare with the military checking some vehicles. They reportedly later returned to the barracks.

Zimbabwe's former home affairs minister, now the leader of the opposition Zapu party, Dumiso Dabengwa, has reportedly said that a military coup "cannot be ruled out" in the country.

Man southern Africa has been relatively chill, we don't need anymore damn drama :snoop:

From the Guardian:

Zimbabwe’s capital Harare was reported to be in a state of chaos after reports of multiple explosions and soldiers taking over the headquarters of a state broadcaster, assaulting both civilians and staff.

Earlier the government accused the head of the armed forces of “treasonable conduct”, ratcheting up tension in the southern African nation.

Armed military vehicles seen driving through the capital had earlier sparked rumours of a coup attempt, just a day after the country’s military chief – flanked by other senior officers – warned that he was prepared to “step in” to end turmoil in the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Witnesses reported seeing several lorries full of soldiers and at least six armoured vehicles on roads approaching Harare in the late afternoon on Tuesday, though residents said there were no signs of troops at the airport or the residence of President Robert Mugabe.

Is it clear who side the tanks are on yet?

Surely that general wouldn’t make such a statement without being clear that the whole army united?

For now we just watch

In any case none of the Israelites that left Egypt made it to the promised land. They had to die out first along with their slave mentality and only their offspring born free on the journey made it (with good lessons). I’m very high but I’m sure there’s a small analogy in this story somewhere with what’s happening in Zim, a very young country, with those that fought for it with guns in due time making way for younger actual economists and politicians who were born with enough and no real need for the extra pillaging
