Zion on returning: Physically I'm fine, now it's just a matter of when I feel like Zion. Admits it’s more mental

HE FELT FINE
THE LAST TIME HE HURT THE HAMSTRING...
SO IT WILL DEFINITELY fukk
WITH YOU MENTALLY.

IN THE BACK OF HIS HEAD
THE SECOND HE GIVES MAX EFFORT
IT MAY GO AGAIN.

I get it, but his other teammate in Ingram has been dealing with health issues all season long, yet he is going to be out here.

He would have been better off saying it was a physical issue due to conditioning and not playing in months rather than mental for that very reason.

He’s going to have to take that risk at some point anyways, which is why teams trot players out there a few games before the playoffs.

And I’m a huge fan and rooting for homie, but I’m just struggling to understand how saying this especially right now helps anyone or anything…let alone his own mental wellbeing…it just adds more pressure and criticism…the pelicans best I can tell we’re giving him cover…the prevailing narrative was that they were over cautious, if anything, protecting him (and their investment) from himself….don’t wanna come off like I understand or have any experience with the mental toll of pro sports, or making light of it…I’m just genuinely confused

You know,I was with you thinking he was done after seeing the clip. But the more I think about it,the more I think it could be something simpler, allow me to translate

"I was sure the Pelicans were going to be mathmatically eliminated. So I didnt really bother staying in shape while I was hurt. Im not quite feeling like Zion:francis:"

I suppose neither is good. But if Im a Pelicans fan I would prefer he just still be that guy who likes his snacks.

Klay Thompson >>>

Two "career ending" injuries. Achilles and ACL back to back.

:picard:

Came back and played like ass for a few months (actually he came back last year during the playoffs and helped them win the fourth chip)

Fought through the mental blocks.

Finished the season as the number one three-point shooter in the NBA and carried the returning champs while Steph the Gawd was out injured.

That's how MEN face adversity.

:myman:

Edit: Klay didn't come back during the playoffs that was Steph.

You're right, I was thinking about Steph. But don't miss the bigger point.

He fought through adversity. Not bend over to it.

He didn't bytch out and claim mental health or other bs. Which ANY of us can do. Everything we do in life requires mental fortitude.

I didn't want to go to the gym tonight. I had to fight the voice in my head making excuses. But I pushed through and I'm here now, sharing a message of perseverance.

Klay just manned up and went through the process. Zion and others can too.

That’s not the same at all. Name a player that returned for an elimination game after already missing several months.

Remember when they used to say a star at 70% is better than a role player at 100% and that’s why they pushed through things.

When did these dudes get so soft that they won’t even suit up for a playoff game over some fukking “mental issues”.

Go out there and be a damn decoy if it means you can get your team an extra basket or two.
Money + seeing how retired athletes look after being tough for 10+ years.

Yung bulls getting paid generational money through endorsements and contracts very early in their career. Most of these brehs could retire with just a few years in the league. That motivation ain't the same once you get paid.

Imagine being a regular white collar worker making $100k/year. Then, you get a contract for 5 years @ $200M around age 25. You want to earn all that money but just a fraction of it would set you up for life. Coming into work is hard if you don't LOVE IT LOVE IT.
