Nobody is talking about taking food or luxury out of someone's hands, however it was earned. What's being discussed is preventing a relative handful of people from accruing existential capital, funds they could never put back if you tripled their lifespan, and the danger of breaking the entire system for everyone.

You honestly think their pursuit of funds that will never be used by that individual takes precedence over millions who are hurt by the lack (billions in the case of collapse because economics are intertwined on a global level now). That is madness.

Exactly. Almost no billionaire got wealthy off their own backs. Mass exploitation of labor, natural resources or actual slavery is the only way. Even Zuckerberg or the founders of Google had to bankrupt and raw dog THOUSANDS of companies and put even more people out of work on their pursuit of global hegemony.

They can’t even spend all that. After a certain amount of money (let’s say 2B), the excess should flow back into society. You can come up with a prestigious name for it in which the ultra rich take pride in the surplus they contribute.
The issue arises in that a lot of net worth isn’t simply cash, but assets in stock, property, funds etc. I don’t see how that could be redirected to the general population.

Does Bezos, Gates, Musk, etc. all have 1 billion in cash sitting in a bank?

When we talking about billionaires is it cash or is it all assets? Technically can make $80k salary, but still be considered a millionaire if you own a million dollar home.
