Black Americans have led the charge and its been stalled for 35 years
We're 13% of the population and being outpaced in birth rates by Hispanics. I can get the idea of wanting the movement to stay homegrown and the fact that Africa nations will want to benefit themselves to some degree isn't ideal, but this isn't an ideal world
I think seeing the terms they actually want makes sense, but being outright against their current push (not saying you are) would make less sense to me
They can push all they want, just not for us. I am very clear and specific on my stance. I do not want them speaking for us, on this issue at all. I quite frankly do not trust any of them. So if they want to go after the Western powers to get reprations for their countries, well that is their business. Our business and claim is here in the US and I rather we continue to work on the issue for ourselves.
Besides, pay attention to who voted "No" and "Abstained", and you will see just how effective that vote was.
Edit: To make it clear why I do not trust them. It is simple, we Black Americans would not see one red cent of the money they got their hands on it. The US has been giving African nations money for years. Ask yourself this, how much of it was used to aid us over here by those nations that received it?
"The United States provides billions in annual aid to Africa, with approximately $12.7 billion in funding allocated to sub-Saharan Africa in 2024 alone. This funding supports various initiatives, including over $4 billion in humanitarian aid for crises and substantial health and developmental programs."
