I just wanna say... losing weight for a lot of ppl isnt just as easy as "okay, time to start hittin the gym."

From my understanding eating is almost like an addiction like smoking, perpetuated by bad self-esteem and emotional fragility, as well as bad habits. Its a hellish cycle, they feel bad because they eat but then they eat because they feel bad.

So telling an overweight person something like "well, how about you just lose weight?" is rather ignorant and inconsiderate. Its a lot they need to overcome first.

Pretty much. People add those rude qualifiers for things that you can't always be changed. Even if it can be changed, like weight, it's still rude.
