Bron says you can't compare 80's and 90's players playing 82 games to today's game due to the faster pace.

THE POINT IS
DUDES WERENT MOVING
AROUND MUCH
AT ALL DOING THE DEAD BALL ERA ...

A TON OF ISOLATION BALL
AND POST UPS
SO WHEN WAS THIS DISTANCE
BEING COVERED?

CHART LOOKS LIKE TOTAL BULLshyt.

WHO EVEN CREATED THIS CHART?

WHO ACTUALLY WENT BACK
AND TRACKED EVERY PLAYER,
OF EVERY TEAM OF EVERY SEASON
IN THE 80S, 90S, 2000S
BEFORE THEY BEGAN TO TRACK THAT STUFF?

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN INTERNET HOAX
BECAUSE THAT DEAD BALL ERA
IS A RED FLAG

tldr: distance doesn’t start to be tracked until 2013 through 2014. But the author found that adding that team/seasons estimated three point attempt rate to pace and multiplying by 100 was consistently producing a very accurate distance traveled figure.

What's funny is the 80s had real point guards not fat mfs like luka being the ball up the court. The point guard of the 80s would run this generation out the building. The Pistons of the 80s would make Bron cry. I could see Mahome spiking the ball at the back of Bron' s head. Just to throw him off :pacspit:
lol are u high? Brunson, Fox, Curry, Maxey would snap the ankles of any pg in the 80s Big guards like Luka and Harden are “slower” but would get every thing they wanted on offense

Makes sense for your argument to use point guards and not overweight big men like Bryant Reeves, Mike Sweetney and Greg Ostertag. Big men like that could never cope with the pace and running of today's game.

you’re only looking at one side of the ball. Teams, even in the dead ball era, have to move more to close out while contesting the 3 pointer.

Fastest Pace by Era (NBA)

1. Early 1960s (peak speed)

  • Fastest era ever in terms of possessions per game
  • Teams routinely played at 125–130 possessions per game
  • Why so fast?
    • No shot clock until 1954 → chaos habits lingered
    • Less half-court offense
    • More turnovers, quick shots, constant running

  • Think: Wilt, Russell era — track meet basketball

2. ABA (late 1960s–1970s)

  • Almost as fast as the ’60s NBA
  • Emphasized flair, quick shots, and the 3-point line
  • High pace, high scoring, loose structure

3. Modern NBA (2015–present)

  • Fast by modern standards, but still slower than the ’60s
  • Pace jumped with:
    • Analytics
    • Small-ball
    • Early shot-clock threes

  • Around 100–102 possessions per game, not historically extreme

4. 1980s

  • Fast, but more controlled
  • Showtime Lakers pushed tempo, but league average was lower than the ’60s

5. Slowest Era: late 1990s–early 2000s

  • Iso-heavy, grind-it-out
  • Pace dipped into the low 90s

📌 Final verdict

  • Fastest era ever: ✅ 1960s NBA
  • Flashiest fast era: ABA
  • Most efficient fast era: Modern NBA

that’s two steps to close out if you’re lucky, you’re not factoring in defenders having to scramble to chase a swinging ball. and those miles add up.

Not to mention, I think you’re over estimating how much guys moved in the 80s. For the first 20 to 30 years of the NBA’s existence, most offenses were run and gun and shooters would often take a shot the first opportunity they had once they crossed half court, hence why pace was so much faster. Watch any clip from the 80s and you very rarely see defenders having to chase scorers around or stay glued to their hip as the offense was simple and so was the defense.

He's not gonna agree with you. He thinks Fat Lever could guard Curry and Maxey better than anybody in today's NBA. Nostalgia is kicking his ass.

EXACTLY THEY TOOK QUICK SHOTS
AND HAD TO RUN BACK THE OPPOSITE
WAY UP THE COURT...
DO THAT ALL GAME AND WATCH
THOSE MILES ADD UP.

NOW COMPARE THAT TO
THE DEAD BALL ERA
WHERE THEY STOOD AROUND
WATCHING A nikka DRIBBLE
OUT THE CLOCK IN AN ISO
OR WATCHING A BIG POST UP
BEFORE TAKING A SHOT
OR PASSING BACK OUT TO
THE 3 WITH 2 SECONDS ON
THE CLOCK AND THE MATH
DOESNT ADD UP.
