Look at the kids following his lead.. throughout the whole video, completely oblivious to the destruction and death around them

The fake smiles on all their faces

Look at how he takes off running from.... after he stops entertaining/dancing

Nah b... he just put together a masterpiece :ohhh:

Childish Gambino with the kids hitting that Gwara Gwara dance is a homage to South Africa :blessed:
(1:07-1:39) timestamped (Gwara Gwara)

:stylin:
I caught that because I visited South Africa :banderas:
The details in this video are just :wow:

That's not really what I got out of it. Seems the carefree dancing is a representation for black people not giving a fukk about the world around them. And the only violence I see in the video is black people harming other blacks. It may not be a statement on "black on black" crime, but he sure went out of his way to do "black" dances on his way to the killing.

He did Black dances because he is under possession...

The killings were symbolic representations of prominent killings of Black people by White people...

Like this an objective thought behind it...

If you think this was about Black folks killing Black folks and being goofy then you missed the point...

Donald Glover in his most recent interview in the New Yorker talks about race relations...particularly and has an overall fatalistic view of point of it....

He talks abut the purpose of art, whiteness, death, exploitation...

Particularly here...

Donald Glover Can’t Save You | The New Yorker
He stretched his legs, wincing. “I tell stories because that’s the best way of spreading information,” he said. “We’re all tricking and toying and playing with each other’s senses to affect this thing hidden inside our skulls.” He drew a circle in the air, then jabbed a finger, trying to penetrate it. “That’s what Earn is trying to do with Alfred—tell him a story so he can get into his understanding and make him do what he wants.” He pulled his hand back, sheepishly. “I just realized I’m drawing an egg-and-sperm kinda thing.”

“I’m scanned into ‘Star Wars’ now, my face and body,” he told me. “Who’s to say that at some point they won’t take that scan and say, ‘Let’s make another movie with Donald. He’s been dead for fifteen years, but we can do whatever we want with him.’ ”

Fam Udeorji had told me, “White Donald would be James Franco—a guy doing a lot of different shyt, none of it interesting.” I asked Glover if there was a possibility, given his belief that the black experience was more interesting—albeit far more painful—than the white experience, that White Donald wouldn’t have ended up where Black Donald has. Very softly, he said, “Would you rather be a person who has all the opportunities but can’t see them? Or a person who can see all the opportunities but can’t have them?” Probably the latter, I said. You? “Yeah, there’s something beautiful about being able to see it all.”

Art should be viewed like dream...a representation of the thoughts of the artist...that is supposed to interact with yours...a shared dream

Why would Donald Glover...make a music video about Black people killing Black people...

That doesn't make any sense...

If you feel that way....that more has to do with you...than what Glover created...

I mean It's obviously up to interpretation, but the video literally entails black people killing black people.

I can respect your interpretation, but you kinda gotta reach to make it there. Talk of possession or mischief gods which was seemingly never even mentioned or alluded to in the video. Not one white person causing harm or manipulating the situation to cause the black people in the video to behave that way.

Your interpretation seemingly adds too much, to make it into what you want it be.

Not one white person causing harm or manipulating the situation to cause the black people in the video to behave that way.

Wouldn't that immediately remove all subtlety and subtext, though?

Spelling things out is when you don't have the skis or ability to relay your issue through imagery, lyrics, metaphors, etc.

Not really. There's a subtle way to imply things. Unless i missed it there's no implication of that anywhere in the video.
