Major problem in the black community. There's alot of shyt we just excuse when really nikkas need help or need to be institutionalized.

Depression is NO joke, and its not some trend either. I have a close friend who literally might be smoking himself into an early grave because of anxiety/depression. And despite our efforts to try to be friends with him and support him...dude needs professional help and perhaps meds. Its not because he's weak, but because dude has mental health issues and we should'nt ignore that.

I mean if you grew up in a rough neighborhood you probably know some sociopaths, some schizophrenics and some bi-polar ass nikkas who might have stayed out of trouble/the pen if they woulda got some help.

This is not even counting the genetic PTSD that all black people share also known as the "scars of slavery".

Suicide is never the answer, and whoever told you that is a fukk ass friend and you prolly shoulda blew his shyt out.

In this society, it's common. Especially, for black folk though it mostly goes undiagnosed.

If you are depressed. Get help. Do your research. We don't have many affordable mental health services in black communities but their are clergymen who council and support groups you can find. Check out community centers. If you can afford therapy, i recommended it.

My philosophy is that it's a cold dog eat dog world. No one can make that decision for you. You have to want to live. Most people have suicidal thoughts but most people's desire to live is stronger than their desire for death.

If you really wanted to die you would find a way. But you are procrastinating and buying time because you are looking for a reason not to. You want to live. So live.

Depression is being stuck in victimhood, feeling helpless to what others do/did to you, how they think about you, about regrets from your past.

None of that stuff matters. Because being alive means having the ability to make changes. You are worth something, you have to take back your power.

Now everyone has a different homeostasis because of biochemistry. So one person's norm may be more "depressed" or lower energy than others. But the goal is to be the best you can be and love your best life.

This. Depression sinks in when people are only listening to the dark parts of their subconscious. Through therapy, good peer groups, and some good ole mind occupation tasks (a good video game always helped me), you can begin to hear the more light, positive parts of your psyche.

Your greatest enemy is you...we always hear that...

But your greatest friend is you too...

USA is the 3rd most depressed nation...

Suicide is the most common in 1st world nations...

Basically...life sucks and people will tell you it will get better...but it really doesn't...there are no wins in life...only losses...

And honestly, it takes way more strength and courage to realize something sucks and to end it...than to stick around...

Suicide is about ending suffering and preventing further suffering. Suffering is a constant for any living being. There is no relief from it.

The reason why people tell you to kill yourself when you tell them that you are depressed is because people have a veil of ignorance when it comes to life.

People like to ignore things that would make them uncomfortable. Depressed people don't have that...on top of it being a biological sickness in the brain, it reveals a deep psychological honesty that you can only get when you are depressed.

You realize shyt sucks...like really sucks...shyt that normally wouldn't bother you, will bother you. Like seeing a homeless person on the street...may be a normal occurrence for a regular person, but for a depressed person it's like a crime against humanity...it's a reminder on how shytty life really is...some people have houses...some people sleep on a bench and are begging in front of Walmart...

How fair is that...one thing can go wrong in your life and now you begging for money

Now you go tell someone in a normal mood that you are depressed...the people that will tell you to go kill yourself...are so far in their veil and can't possibly understand why you would be depressed...especially in a country like USA

"Oh we have food, we have video games, we have elections, we got p*ssy, we got free education, we got nice jobs...why you depressed, why don't you trade places with some starving African..." :comeon:

And a depressed person will then feel ashamed for being depressed, as if you are supposed to enjoy these material things...

When depression is a societal sickness, it's about coercion and doing something you don't wanna do. It's about seeing deep structural unfairness. It's about recognizing structural limitations in your life. It's about realizing how cruel and insignificant your very existence is. It's about realizing there's no such thing as destiny or fate. It's about realizing how alone you are.

So you going to kill yourself...will be confirmation how fukked up the world is...and people that say "Go kill yourself" are calling your bluff...

If you caught the depression bug...well there's no way out...

They'll give you some drugs, give you a support group, give you a therapist...

Really wouldn't solve your problem or a problem, just help you put the veil back on...so you can be a good soldier and continue on living for society, so you can continue to pay your debt to the masses that are probably just as miserable you are but are coerced into staying around.

Being depressed is a form of sanity, it isn't a weakness whatsoever.

Being depressed isn't weakness, but As someone who dealt with it heavy.. you are weak once you let it define you & you stop even trying to get better. It's an uphill battle and if you aren't willing to get better, you won't.

Ameeican society emphasises alienation and competition like no other. There's a reason a lot people feel powerless and hopeless. Doesnt make you weak, just means your eyes are open

I have to disagree with this. First, there's the innate survival instinct, common to all animals. Then, finding a surefire method is not exactly straightforward. Speaking from experience, the method part involves a quite a bit of risk-assessment.

Many people get out of depression. I agree with many of your points, but there are plenty of ways to find meaning in life and to live a long and healthy and fruitful life. I feel :sadcam: for anyone who feels that there is "nothing to live for" or that "all of life is suffering" because that is a defeatist attitude.

Depression is hard. I've lost friends to suicide (both the "hard way" and through gradual incline of drug use) and I've had friends get out of negative situations as well.

Yes "ignorance is bliss" and sometimes the more you know/acknowledge, the worse things seem. Homelessness sucks, it shows the deterioration that a human being can go through. Watching someone die of a disease or seeing parents bury their child, all traumatic and terrible situations. But it doesn't mean that life as a whole is terrible. It just means that we tend to magnify the bad moments. We tend to relish the BAD much more than the good. Ask someone who has been through a tragedy what their worst day is and they can tell you. Ask them what their best day is and they probably couldn't. The brain is wired to remember negatives much more than positives in order to turn experiences into memories so that further pain can be prevented/avoided.

That said, there are many great things about living life. If you look for the good you can find it. Not saying that everything is fine and dandy, but there are lots of things about life that are wonderful if you have the right mindset.

My advice to anyone thinking of killing themselves is two fold (and I've said this on this board before):

#1 - Seek help (first and foremost)

#2 - run yourself into a ground for a goal. If you find yourself at your very wits end and you think about killing yourself, ask yourself what is the one thing you want(ed) out of life. And then pursue that relentlessly. You have nothing to lose. If it's "the perfect body" then shut off all distractions and just focus on only getting the perfect body. Spend hours and hours at the gym. Get rid of anything impeding your goal. You'll either achieve the goal (and feel great) OR you'll end up dying pursuing the goal (which in theory you wanted to do anyway).
