If Sanders actually entertains this idea, I really do doubt his political IQ. Like I said, he has to realize that the numbers aren't in his favor and the republican party realizes this. Why would Donald Trump even treat him seriously when he isn't even going to be nominated? Bernie thinks it will be a serious debate while trump would just use him to attack his true opponent Hillary.

Also the idea that trump is afraid of sanders is laughable given trump has already demonstrated that he could give a fukk about policy and just likes swimming in mud. He would just spend the whole time insulting Bernie if he was serious about him. Bernie is too nice that it would be a Jeb level humiliation.

Bernie ain't dumb, he's doing this for exposure before the primary and he'd wax Donald in a debate.

If this actually happens, which I doubt it does, Bernie might be planning a run as an independent, especially if he smokes Trump in the debate.
He said he wouldn't run as an independent though. What he did say was he may start a movement that turns into a 3rd party is he doesn't succeed in becoming President.

I know he's said that, but if he had a debate with Trump alone and it drew huge ratings, it'd be foolish not to consider an independent run. He'd have to make up his mind soon though to get on the ballots in every state (Texas would basically be impossible).

Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher. Likewise, the networks want to make a killing on these events and are not proving to be too generous to charitable causes, in this case, women’s health issues. Therefore, as much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders - and it would be an easy payday - I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be.

How can a Bernie supporter switch to Trump? :what:

The non-stan answer is because after close to 40 years of insider bullshyt(in their mind), they want any type of outside change they can get. Whether that be a democratic socialist or a business maniac. Anything is preferable over picking the standard politician. You also have to remember that a lot of Bernie base is people who don't pay close attention to politics, rural conservatives who like his economic message, and independents who are with him due to his perceived authenticity. When you look at Trump's rise, he gained a lot of his popularity by saying he would protect social security, improve infrastructure, stopping trade deals, and going in at politicians. Add in a bit of cognitive dissonance when it comes to the racial stuff, and you can see why a 40 year old rural Bernie voter would side with Trump over Hillary in a general. I don't think this applies much to millennials though. Most will probably end up voting for Hillary or third party.
