Unfortunately because it's a team sport it gets complicated. Because Draymond does all the ancillary things at a higher level than most players

It's like those Shawn Marion vs Melo debates back in day when Marion was putting up 22/11/2 and guarded 4 positions on the Suns....people swore he was a better player than Melo

I used to see it all the time back in SSOL era. People saying they would take Marion because of his versatility...because he could rebound and defend multiple positions and fill up a stat sheet...and that all Melo did was score.

That would be the exact same premise in a Kyrie vs Draymond debate. Some people are gonna take Dray...and their reasoning is gonna be because of his "versatility" Because he "does more on the court" and that all Kyrie does is "score"

But you're right about Dray not posting Marion type numbers though ill give you that.

when kyrie has been on the cavs and lebron isnt playing they have a horrific winning percentage...before and after lebrons return to cleveland.
with that said i'd take kyrie....

kyrie is a great scorer who saved lebron's legacy. but guys who do nothing but score are a dime a dozen in this league. you could replace kyrie with melo for example, and nothing would change. the cavs would still have won the ship last year. perhaps they would be even better because of melo's experience.

draymond, on the other hand, is irreplaceable. he's had to be the leader of that gs team because steph, klay, and now kd are laid back guys who lack that killer instinct. not to mention he's the best defensive player in the league and a decent offensive threat who is capable of going off for 30+. put anyone else on gs in draymond's place and they wouldn't be nearly as good.

not saying draymond is better... because he wouldn't have the kind of impact he has now on any other team. just that it doesn't make sense to compare players without considering the context in which they play.

Kyrie and Draymond are basically the same tiered players...great as additional pieces but if either one is your number 1 option on offense you are going to be a bottom 5 team in the nba...

scoring is the most premium skill
you go after all the complementary stats when you know you can't provide the premium buckets
