The roughest parts to me were that:
1) He was a rugby player, which is rough enough to get paralyzed from, but a slug is what did him in. His mom reflects on all the times she worried when seeing him take hits while playing rugby and how this could have been avoided.
2) Most people get no symptoms, so he's a rare case and it essentially cost him his life.
3) There was hope at some point, and then it ALL went to shyt. The changes in conversation with the doctors had to be devastating over time. From, "He should be alright. People usually recover from this all the time" to "Things are starting to look better" to "It's day 365....are you sure you want to let him go on? He's already a quadriplegic."
