it has nothing to do with SONG structure. the song structure is set in stone. if you want that simple universal southern cookie cutter setup. go for it. its not hard to do. maino, papoose could do that and might even be hot for it. that would still not do any LEGIT artist from other areas with other sounds any justice. At the end of the day nikkas need to step their song structure game up. You can have bars for days, but if you don't have a decent chorus you're not gonna get on the radio. Strictly 4 My Jeeps gets play in NY because the beat knocks and is catchy. It's clearly a regional record, yet gets spins daily apparently.
Papoose, Maino, etc keep failing because they keep trying to chase whatever is popular on the radio, with wack imitation beats and singers. They need to come up with something truly catchy, not something that's chasing success.
Thats A LOT OF IFS my nikka.
Imma expand even further. And the fukkboy Ebro actually touched on this. The reason that "old" sound will never come back is because women don't like it. It's not some shyt you can dance to, it's not catchy. Its too cerebral (sorry ladies). Down south and electro beats are more in your face and straightforward. You gotta understand the biggest consumers and radio listener groups are WOMEN. Rap flipped really when its biggest consumers went from white male teens to black females. U look at the biggest artists now, 9 times out of 10 they are someone bytches fukk with. So to really take control back we have to re-establish our buying power- which IMO is just not gonna happen.

You can't say it's karma because its happening to people who weren't involved in the previous generation of music. Karma is a personal thing, meaning it is based around an individuals actions. It might be a reaction to the previous generation but its not karma
for yall semi older heads to old heads. anyone 25+ that knows what REGIONAL hiphop use to sound like when hiphop was on fire(record sales wise as well as popularity).
Papoose Goes In On Ebro For Not Giving New York Artists A Spot - YouTube
we always go back n forth about this or that. the south this, the east/west that.
and us older heads always talk about how we missed that "REGIONAL" sound. where you could hear a record from the south... forget that. from Houston and know its a HOUSTON record and not an Atlanta or miami record. thats how regional it was. people had their own SOUND. but because of the internet and people following trends because of the net being allowed to literally watch a trend over and over and perfect it for themselves. you lose a lot of that REGIONAL sound that you had back in the day. where you could hear records and feel like those artists were taking you down their BLOCK. vs now where we all sound like we're in the same club.
but it goes deeper then that. WHy is it that REGIONAL Rap doesnt get a look? listen from that youtube clip of mr Program Director EBRO tell on himself. you hear the word "...if its regional" its not getting a look. now, that is the first time i have EVER heard someone from the radio straight out admit this.
So new artists. NOW you know. DO NOT think for one moment you will pop with a EAST COAST SOUND. it aint...happening. i dont care how FIRE you are. i dont care if your east coast sound is a 2014 sound in 2013. wont matter. if it sounds EAST COAST, it aint getting any burn. and thats on your own block in your own region. what a shame.
but here's the worse part. ask yourself this question. 90% of the Southern artists have a distinct sound in their music. Why is it that the SOUTH gets to make REGIONAL music and get big radio station push(on hot 97 as well) but no one else does?

As a semi older head (32) who has spent half his life up north and the other down south i will say this. The southern stations used to play a little of everything. When i moved to the south in 10th grade or so(1997-98), the hottest song on ATL radio was If i ruled the World by Nas...they also played plenty of Jay and then it was the Ruff Ryders invasion. They played right along side Bout it Bout it, Luke, Outkast, Cash Money and whatever else. When i would go back up north, i would hear Nas, Jay, etc but ZERO down south music. That trend probably continued up until the early 2000s. I wasn't exposed to southern music until the late 90's. They simply didn't play it. It was like a blackout. When i came down here it was a crash course in UGK, Geto Boys, Outkast Goodie, shyt that I heard in passing but never was immersed in. The fact that NY is now forced to play music from outside of NY or risk further irrelevancy is KARMA.
see..this is where imma straight up disagree...cause im kinda tired of hearin this NY aint play other people shyt MYTH that's been runnin a LIL too long now...now..lets get this straight..there was some haters...and there WAS some regional bias..which EVERY region had/has...but lets get this straight..Outkast got MAD burn in the 90's..NY artists worked with them n everything...look at Raekwon on their album...Elevators was POPPIN..alot of their singles was poppin...Luniz I Got 5 On It..shyt was POPPIN...Snoop and Dre and the whole Death Row...was POPPIN...Bone Thugs...was POPPIN...Do or Die mad love for Po Pimp...Domino got mad love for Ghetto Jam n his shyt...Crucial Conflict got mad love for they shyt....lets not even talk about when No Limit and Cash Money came thru wit they shyt...this NY didnt show other regions love shyt is FALSE and it's annoying as fukk when I hear people say the shyt...there was some haters...but for the most part..if ya shyt was good..nikkas rocked wit it...of course if it was some local artist or whatever nikkas aint fukk wit it heavy but that goes for any region...and I got fam all thru the south...when I would go down there...they would be bias towards they shyt for the most part as well..unless it was a big hit or some shyt...they wasnt playin our underground or street shyt from what I experienced....even till this day..south nikkas try to complain like we don't play their shyt when we play they shyt more than OUR OWN shyt..and they dont even TOUCH our shyt no more...
Thats not true.. Shook Ones, quiet storm, ice cream, i can go on, most of the 90s stuff is hard and very danceable.

Yea the occasional SMASH HIT inescapable song would pop up and get play, but have u ever heard Big Mike, UGK, 8 ball, Luke, Tela, etc etc on the radio during the golden era of hip hop? fukk no. Every ny nikka would say " i dont fux with the south dun except outkast and goodie, and i dont fux with the west except for Snoop" etc etc. There was always the occasional person, but NY and up north radio was 95% regional in the mid to late 90s"Karma" can also be a group thing just based off of what it means. If a group of people kept doing something, their offspring will feel the effects just based off how life works. Just like if your parents worked hard to be rich you will experience the effects of that even though you didn't work to get those riches.
I guess instead of calling it karma you can call it the "law of cause, and effect"
