The angle that OP took is :trash:

That being said, he is right from a historical standpoint, he is correct.

The Yankees originally started as the Baltimore Orioles, before coming to NY as the Highlanders and then became the Yankees. They were originally looked at as interlopers, an outsider team. They were the original Brooklyn Nets in a way. They shared a stadium with the then NY Giants (technically the Giants rented it out to them), who at the time was the #1 team in NY.

Things didn't start looking up until they got Babe Ruth. Then they ended moving to the Bronx (really the Giants kicked them out of their stadium because they were upset at all the attention the Yankees were getting after the Ruth acquisition. Going to the Bronx was supposed to be a banishment) and started to build up their franchise. They overtook the Giants, but were in a tug of war with the Dodgers, going back and forth. Wasn't really a clear cut #1 though back then. Wasn't until the late 40's/early 50's that the Yankees took a large lead and then was fully in control once the Dodgers and Giants left NY. Since then, the Yankees have built up such a stronghold on NY baseball that nobody can touch them.

That's why I laugh when people talk about how Nets will never make a dent in NY and it will always be a Knicks town just like it's always a Yankees town. When they don't realize that there was a time where the Yankees were the bottomfeeders of NY :mjlol:

Stop posting some historical bullshyt up until 96 the yankees and mets since the inauguration of 62 had similar world series success and limited runs with the mets running tings from 84 til 93

Yankees are having one of the most incredible seasons ever injuries upon injuries still dominating the AL....NOBODY CARES

mets come thru have a 3 week run and the city is rocking like it is 86....queens run you mfers

The mets so much as go on a 10 game win streak and jump up a few places and its ALL you hear about on Local NY sports radio. It just hits different when the Mets are doing well. When the Yanks are hot Met fans fall back and let them have their shine.

But When the Mets are hot you even got Yank fans calling in all flustered that the Yanks aren't getting all the attention anymore, its like clockwork. Lol look no further than this thread. Yanks are a better run organization that has more consistent success, but that Mets buzz is just something else, it does somethin to the city.
Y’all really believe this? :dwillhuh:
The lies we tell ourselves to be able to sleep. :mjlol:

Yes, and they hide as well. Met's fans travel to other's teams stadiums as much as anyone. And for a franchise that plays in the same town as the most successful/storied franchise in NY sports the fact that we have the fan base that we do is incredible.
:pacspit:
Jets fans never hide. We always out here.

See Yankees and cowboys fans off the top of my head. Lakers too.

That’s the point. Some fan bases are eternal. These dudes could lose every game and their fans still bragging and talking shyt with the yankee (cowboy, lakers) fitted and jersey

All that winning let’s them never feel like they lost. Cause they can rehash “rings” and always feel on high. Those franchises never lose their city

Yankees have lost their status as the top team in the past. Yankee stadium was a ghost town when the yankees had losing records and had half filled stadiums when they were perrenial playoff teams through most of the 2010s. The mets underdog identity fills a void for blue collar fans. The fact that the Yankees success has never reduced the mets to Clippers and Nets status is a huge testament to the fanbase and its hold on the city

It really is pretty funny when you look at it that way. Most teams up here have bad ownership if you look at each team.

Time is a flat circle :lolbron:

Lack reading comprehension brehs it clearly says cubs AND Red Sox

And people dapped that post
Maybe you should have phrased the sentence better. shyt said "cubs and red sox have won multiple..."

1 WS in 100+ years and now y'all are unbearable

You should also light a candle and thank a higher power the Mets got bounced by SF in that wild card game or y'all asses would still be sitting here ringless :camby:

They're not bruh...

They haven't been a relevant franchise in this city in over 30 years...

Mutt fans spend 8 years a decade hiding in a closet and the moment their team makes any noise whatsoever a few dozen decide to put their fitteds back on and scream "feels like its 86 again"...
Right now its the same half a dozen dudes getting hyped and talking shyt on NY sports radio for a one game playoff they won't get...:mjlol:

At this point laughing at them is like laughing at a retarded kid...You feel bad for them but can't help but laugh at them...
Your disdain for the Mets is :mjlol:

Jesus what did the Mets fans do to you over the years? :picard:

To the OP - there is a different buzz around NY when the Mets are doing well bc NY IS and always was a Yankees town...outside of a decade or so (mid 80s to mid 90s)....so you add all the Yankees fans who are spoiled at this point and expect nothing but a WS appearance....then you add in the Mets fan excitement....then everyone who roots for other teams and hates the Yanks = more buzz when the Mets are good.

I'm saying this as a lifelong Mets fan who was around to watch our last WS title.

This is actually debatable...
I wouldn't knock a nikka if he had that argument...
I've actually never really thought about it.
I've always been a yankee fan.
But before I started watching baseball, and learning the game...
It did feel like the mets were the more popular team...
I somehow knew who Darryl Strawberry and Doc was before I ever watched 1 inning

So what you're saying is that when either team is on a good run and winning games , they run the city? ok got it.

The way they won the WS. The partying....

Add LT to the mix....NOTHING was like 80s NYC...and the Mets OWNED the city for over a decade.

That’s why I don’t think folks understand why We old time Yankee fans love Don Mattingly the way we do. He was the only reason we’ were getting any attention.

The 90s Yanks were never loved like the 80s Mets were

Bullshyt the Yankees won 3 chips how is that similar World Series success when the Mets only won once :dahell:

The Yankees also won 7 pennants to the Mets three in that era stop capping :camby:

Even when the Mets was up in the 80’s the Yankees looking at the records were still solid teams. The Yankees are almost never bottom feeders.
