but he did have the number one song in the country shyt was everywhere movies, commercials etc,and millions of views on youtube before thriftshop dropped, i think ADA just using warners distribution, cuz they have tons of artist on there and ive never heard of any of them

dude......WARNER is ADA and ADA is WARNER........they created the blueprint for KOCH RECORDS
warner is ABOUT MARKET SHARE...they have been keeping a "foot" on the neck of indys worldwide since the 90's....u ain't eating unless they get a plate
"ADA, which has offices or distribution facilities in New York, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and Chicago, provides an alternative to conglomerates even as it's being bankrolled by one. Warner Bros. owns 95% of the company, and Sub Pop owns the rest."- LA TIMES "Distributor offers alternative"
what happened is ADA got formed following the rise of the grunge scene.....it started out as SUB POP RECRODS an indy out of seattle Washington which was putting out the first records by Soundgarden and Nirvana...
the do it yourself..fukk the industry mentality of this movement , forced Warner to recognize that it "was a new day"
they both had something each other wanted...Sub Pop had the material..and Warner had the distribution...
so they both brainstormed to provide a conglemorate to meet the desires of other indys who had cult followings but didn't want major label obligations...
as a result ADA was formed giving artists like Macklemore, Phish and others the leverage to have more control over their artistic freedom and imagery while the label benefits from not having to do all the leg work to build an artist via development ....
so it worked....but it only works cause the artist have to MAKE IT WORK, while the label allows themselves to play the role of DISTRIBUTOR and use their MAGIC (POLITICS) to bring about further awareness....
unfortunately it hasn't worked with a lot of black rap acts cause they to stuck in the "IM GONNA GET A CHECK" mentality as opposed to ACQURING EQUITY and OWNERSHIP and BACK END PROFITS in the end.....
So I do commend Macklemore for at least doing something on their behalf to have some sovereignty for themselves...
