alternative distribution alliance is a fraud...it parades itself as a indy distribution firm..but it's nothing more than the WARNER MUSIC GROUP providing distribution and marketing on a KOCH music type of transaction...

Alternative Distribution Alliance, the independent music and film distribution arm of Warner Music Group, was created in 1993 to focus on the independent music business = source WIKPEDIA

Ain't no secret he is signed to them and they are who pushed him upon the industry. It's funny if he's such a good rapper why wasn't he actually nominated at any black music award show but seemed to be all over the AMA and Grammys? Black award shows recognize white artist Justin Tim, Jon B, eminem, Paul wall, yellawolf, MGK but Macklemore is nowhere to be found...

Probably because his buzz is false or was false

so warner was the one pushing this dude.. :beli:

:lolbron:that's why it's the RAP GAME...

yeah...sorry to rain on people's parade..but this glorious indy story is not the TRUE story...

in fact this article sheds light on their relationship with warner / ada

"The No. 1 song in the country right now is "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, a rap group out of Seattle. Their claim to fame: They got the song to the top of the chart by themselves, without being signed by a major label.

They've bragged about this success in a
video spoof and on Twitter

But the story they've been telling — the story that's been
widely reported — is not entirely true.

The truth is that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hired a company to help them get their music into stores. That company, Alternative Distribution Alliance, is an arm of Warner Music Group, one of the most major of the major labels.

Still, the rise of "Thrift Shop" is something new. It's an indication of a power shift away from the major labels to the artist themselves. Clearly, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis accomplished a lot on their own.

The rap group spent their early years hustling and playing small clubs like a lot of acts. But they also used technology to build a devoted following on Twitter,
Tumblr and YouTube.

They eventually got to the point where their touring was so successful that they could have been signed by a major label.

Instead, they went a different route. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took the money they'd made from touring and made their own album — a process that digital technology has made much cheaper.

To get their album to the top of the charts though, they needed help.

"You really cannot get a radio hit at this point without major label backing," says Gary Trust from Billboard.

Even in today's world of iTunes and YouTube, you still need the radio to become a superstar, Trust says. So Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hired Warner Music Group to get the band more radio play. That helped propel "Thrift Shop" to No. 1.

Yes, artists can do a lot on their own today. But to get to the top of the charts, they still have to work with a major label. :manny:

:bryan:dude......WARNER is ADA and ADA is WARNER........they created the blueprint for KOCH RECORDS

warner is ABOUT MARKET SHARE...they have been keeping a "foot" on the neck of indys worldwide since the 90's....u ain't eating unless they get a plate :stopitslime:

"ADA, which has offices or distribution facilities in New York, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and Chicago, provides an alternative to conglomerates even as it's being bankrolled by one. Warner Bros. owns 95% of the company, and Sub Pop owns the rest."- LA TIMES "Distributor offers alternative"

what happened is ADA got formed following the rise of the grunge scene.....it started out as SUB POP RECRODS an indy out of seattle Washington which was putting out the first records by Soundgarden and Nirvana...

the do it yourself..fukk the industry mentality of this movement , forced Warner to recognize that it "was a new day"

they both had something each other wanted...Sub Pop had the material..and Warner had the distribution...

so they both brainstormed to provide a conglemorate to meet the desires of other indys who had cult followings but didn't want major label obligations...

as a result ADA was formed giving artists like Macklemore, Phish and others the leverage to have more control over their artistic freedom and imagery while the label benefits from not having to do all the leg work to build an artist via development ....

so it worked....but it only works cause the artist have to MAKE IT WORK, while the label allows themselves to play the role of DISTRIBUTOR and use their MAGIC (POLITICS) to bring about further awareness....

unfortunately it hasn't worked with a lot of black rap acts cause they to stuck in the "IM GONNA GET A CHECK" mentality as opposed to ACQURING EQUITY and OWNERSHIP and BACK END PROFITS in the end.....

So I do commend Macklemore for at least doing something on their behalf to have some sovereignty for themselves...
