Macklemore was grinding like crazy before he blew up though, shyt he was performing in some off the wall club in my city (Christchurch, New Zealand) right when "Thrift Shop" started to pop off. I used to see cats posting his songs on FB etc as well, he's been in the game performing and releasing mixtapes for over a decade, plus he was a XXL Freshman before he blew up breh.

It's not as easy as just paying a company for marketing, you've got to have the foundation as well, that's how he sold 78,000 first week before any of his singles even hit.

at the same time, in order to get your music out there to get that foundation in the first place, you need marketing don't you?

Thrift Shop seemed like a legit viral hit. Everyone that heard it (CACs) seemed to gravitate to it right away. I remember him being in XXL freshmen the year before tho and I had NO fukking clue who he was and I try to stay hip to all this shyt :ld:...felt plant-ish

Not bad

Dunno if I'd drop every dime I had in their hands because there's a chance they'd promote it and it dont take off and then you'll feel cheated out of that money

If anything holla at them and tell them u got a few thousand, ask can they check out the song and if they're willing to work with you, you'll make up the rest with single sales

I'm kinda in the same boat as u

Check me out:

i'm impressed, you really got talent:ohhh:

i'm following you now

As long as you network with the blogs etc., tour and people gravitate towards your product then you should be able to build up your own buzz / grass roots movement without the help of a machine.

alternative distribution alliance is a fraud...it parades itself as a indy distribution firm..but it's nothing more than the WARNER MUSIC GROUP providing distribution and marketing on a KOCH music type of transaction...

Alternative Distribution Alliance, the independent music and film distribution arm of Warner Music Group, was created in 1993 to focus on the independent music business = source WIKPEDIA

this.
notice koch business model was used.
just like i been telling people.
they been using disney meets koch records sales models with this shyt now.
which was lower level play in the dirt for child spins based bullshyt.
that grown people all fell for while more experienced record buyers told y'all the demo and you ignored this.
props, skj....

glad someone else does their homework around here.

You do realize that ANYONE can use ada right? And that you pay THEM For their services right?

That is what Indy artists actually do. They pay to get the same access as those big labels, that doesn’t mean you are signed or owned by the big labels.

Shiet, I have friends that have used services like that, to get their music in stores and distribution.

Check out Digital Music Distribution | Sell music Online | MondoTunes they have the same distribution as universal. Does that mean if I do a deal with mondotunes to get my music in stores that I’m now under universals control?
Hell naw.
Or may I could just say I’m a universal signed artist then huh?

shyt, if that was the case, more ppl would do it, cuz you’d have way more clout saying your signed with warner or universal than saying you are independent.

Use your heads brehs.
