Ain't no secret he is signed to them and they are who pushed him upon the industry. It's funny if he's such a good rapper why wasn't he actually nominated at any black music award show but seemed to be all over the AMA and Grammys? Black award shows recognize white artist Justin Tim, Jon B, eminem, Paul wall, yellawolf, MGK but Macklemore is nowhere to be found...

Probably because his buzz is false or was false

We’ve been loving Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for months, and Sunday night they got their due at the 2013 BET Awards. The duo scored “Best Group” at Sunday’s ceremony in L.A., which also featured nods to Drake ( Video of the Year for “Started From the Bottom”), Kendrick Lamar (Male Hip Hop Artist and the best New Artist), Miguel (Male R&B/Pop artist), Rihanna (Female R&B/Pop Artist) and Nicki Minaj (Female Hip Hop Artist), who nailed her fourth consecutive win in the category.

I'm putting my life saving's on this song, i don't need his level of success, hell, 1/8th of his success will be more than good enough for me

how bout u put your life savings into this song instead
bro your first single should be a solo song if u want people to buy into as an artist

:stopitslime: macklemore had that dude on the hook, as a matter a fact, all the songs Macklemore have put out as singles have someone singing the hook, so cut that mess.

but his songs where unorthodox atleast the subject matter was, but think about all the rappers who had huge singles with tpain or chris brown on the hook, and thier album flopped, unless u taking the flo rida approach cuz he albums dont sell but every song on the album is a single so he dont care

that would be nice if the single took OFF that much for me, i'm just saying, i'm not expecting Macklemore success, if anything if spent 20Gs with ADA, i would probably expect at least koch type of numbers which to me would be something to celebrate and work from there, would put me in great position to tour, hell i'd love Papoose success

Not bad

Dunno if I'd drop every dime I had in their hands because there's a chance they'd promote it and it dont take off and then you'll feel cheated out of that money

If anything holla at them and tell them u got a few thousand, ask can they check out the song and if they're willing to work with you, you'll make up the rest with single sales

I'm kinda in the same boat as u

Check me out:

Macklemore's songs didn't get played on urban radio though, they pushed it directly on pop stations.

But yeah, we will never know the specifics of Macklemores deal cause his story is far more compelling having him as an "indie" than having him as a signed artist. They basically took the Drake So Far Gone story, expanded it and repackaged it for Macklemore.

Macklemore succes is so weird. If you didn't check the charts, you - as a strictly rap fan-wouldn't even know him. Successful but almost not famous. He's the opposite of Big Sean.
Um no, dude is famous and successful, maybe not with the urban audience, tho I dont know anyone who can resist slightly getting jiggy to "can't hold us", but he's good money in the pop/top 40/white college demographic

Macklemore was grinding like crazy before he blew up though, shyt he was performing in some off the wall club in my city (Christchurch, New Zealand) right when "Thrift Shop" started to pop off. I used to see cats posting his songs on FB etc as well, he's been in the game performing and releasing mixtapes for over a decade, plus he was a XXL Freshman before he blew up breh.

It's not as easy as just paying a company for marketing, you've got to have the foundation as well, that's how he sold 78,000 first week before any of his singles even hit.
