All that line is saying is that his raps begin smooth/calm and finish more aggressively. Like I said before, he uses spiritual figures in the song, but that doesn't make the song deep. In another line he's talking about drinking Moet and smoking weed with Medusa.

It Ain't Hard To Tell is one of my all time favorite Nas songs. Not only is it just straight up an amazing and great song but one thing a lot of cats seem to overlook is what an achievement it was/is. Basically name all the rappers that have managed to sample the late great Micheal Jackson. It's a SHORT list. I'm sure there are others but Nas is the ONLY one I can think of at the top of my head. So I ain't een mad at the notion of it being the greatest song on Illmatic.

I can't even legit pick a favorite track off Illmatic, because when NY State of Mind comes on, I'm like "this my shyt." Then Life's a bytch gets the "this my shyt." And every single other song just so happens to be my shyt too. Flawless.
