lol you clearly don't know what conscious rap is

:russ: at "i never prayed to god i prayed to gotti" being conscious
nikka do u even understand the depth that Jay goes into in this song

Ol "the drug game and the crack era is nothing but a shallow struggle" ass nikka :rudy:

"We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killing
The closest of friends when we both started
But grew apart as the money grew and soon grew black hearted"

This few bars outline the reoccurring theme of the song which is the origins of upbringing leading to their differences in adulthood and separation..

This song is every bit as conscious as any of that talib kweli lupe sht yall be hypin up

But ur prolly a cac who goes on bout listening to "real hip hop" like immortal technique n sht :heh:

Fck out my face dumfck nikka :camby:

Jay never makes himself vulnerable or less than cool in his music that's why his "deep" songs aren't felt. Jay never lends himself to opening up really about his insecurities.

That's why rappers like Jay, Fabolous, really can't make those deep heartfelt songs, where you can really relate to their struggles. Cause they don't really open up, they always have their rap persona on

Which is cool, some people just aren't comfortable putting that on record. Jay does what he does better than anyone.

Rap fans are some of the most self hatin muthafukkas around here. It's like y'all are so used to havin to defend the shyt against outsiders and other ignorant muthafukkas that you forget we're supposed to be the ones enjoyin the shyt.

I'm not sayin you can't appreciate lyrics. Lyrics are important to a lotta people. But there's definitely too much of an effort being put int having to "prove" that rap music ain't just a bunch of ignorant nikka shyt. As if all of a sudden if you ain't makin soul music or if you ain't speakin on life's ills or some philosophical bullshyt... you ain't real.

So nikkas cling to a song like Meet The Parents so they can say "SEE? HE RAPPIN BOUT FAMILY TRAGEDY. REAL shyt MAHnikka" even though they know damn well they haven't bumped that track in like 5 years. :scusthov:

Leave the "lacks substance" bullshyt to the dumbass outsiders and hip hop bloggers and lets pretend to be fans for once and EMBRACE what we like. A good song is a good song no matter if it's about the struggle, slingin crack, or just plain old regular every day shyt like fukkin hoes and tryna get your paper up.

Smarten up.

Meet the Parents is a laughable attempt at being "conscious" according to you. What is Meet the Parents talking about?:patrice:
What do you mean? It's self-explanatory. The metaphorical message of the story would be dead obvious even if he didn't repeat "nikkas be a father, you're killing your sons" 2x at the end.

Of course even on a "conscious" storytelling song, he couldn't resist talking about how they love him then they hate him then they love him again at the beginning and namedropping Biggie. :dead:
