Right. It's the most ironic thing about the entire situation that many rap fans are too dumb to see. Jay-Z's B Sides are some of the most intelligent rap songs ever. I.e. Allure, This Life Forever, Most Kings, Soon You'll Understand, his verse on Shiny Suit Theory, etc. Hov basically took intelligence/knowledge and clothed it in an ignorant shell that made listeners feel like they were listening to rap songs about bytches money and cars, but when you grow up and really listen you'll see how insightful he really was/is as an MC.

Nas is a legend but a lot of his post It Was Written work was forced ass "knowledge" diatribes that he tried to make into rap songs (the trash beats didn't help). He was always better when he was rapping about his block (Illmatic) or when he was on his mafioso shyt (It Was Written) but nobody wanted to hear Nas give us a lesson on Egypt. The shyt was mad forced. And all that pseudo intelligence Nas spit on his albums obviously never translated to success outside the music. If Nas is so smart and Jay-Z is just a shallow rapper than why is one way more successful and acquires way more capital than the one who is supposed to be the smart one?

And save the "because smart nikkas don't win in this world" argument because that doesn't even pertain to this situation

Dudes don't get this, especially "lyrical miracle" backpacker types who get aggy that no one wants to listen to their shyt.

The message is never as important as the sonics and musicality of the songs themselves. If you wanna send a message, write a book or give a lecture. The first aspect of music is always entertainment, so if you can't do that first, then no one will ever attach to the message.

He was clearly trying to play Nas out, trying to infer "kicking knowledge" was some corny sh*t (you can hear the "fukk outta here" adlib right after he says it). It was a battle and he was pandering to the audience, aint nothing cool or masculine about being an intellectual.

And I saw Menace II Society in the THEATER, plus ordered it off First Run (lol, what yall know about First Run?). Its one of my favorite movies, mainly for nostalgia purposes.

Hov has ALWAYS dropped knowledge and game in his raps. he came in the game way older than damn near all his peers anyways. So of course he's gonna be more mature about his shyt.
