After having been trained briefly by Joe Goosen in a losing effort against Andrzej Fonfara last April, former WBC 160lb champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32 KOs) will be moving on with his career to be trained by the highly respected Robert Garcia for his next fight on July 18th against Marco Reyes (33-2, 24 KOs) in Texas. It’s unclear if Chavez Jr. will be trained at Garcia’s gym in Oxnard, California, or if he’ll try and get Garcia to come over to Texas to train him.
With all the guys that Garcia trains on a daily basis in Oxnard, it’s doubtful that he’d be willing to accommodate Chavez Jr. by traveling to where he wants the training to take place.
Garcia has the ring knowledge to improve Chavez Jr’s flawed game, but it might not help if Chavez Jr. continues to choose to fight on the inside against his opponents. That’s something that needs to change because he doesn’t have the game to fight in close unless he’s fighting smaller middleweights that are 15-20 pounds lighter than him. Chavez Jr. needs to fight on the outside and use his long reach.
Chavez Jr. needs to be able to move around the ring like he showed in his fights against John Duddy and Peter Manfredo Jr. many years ago. Being mobile will help Chavez Jr. avoid taking so many head shots like the ones he took in his loss to Fonfara. Chavez Jr. also needs to be able to throw quick combinations like the ones we saw from Fonfara. The Polish fighter wasn’t even concerned with loading up on his shots against Chavez Jr. His main focus was throwing quick combinations over and over again. Fonfara’s naturally heavy hands supplied him with more than enough power to work Chavez Jr. over. If Garcia can adapt Chavez Jr. throwing fast combinations, staying on the outside and moving a lot, he could be a decent fighter one of these days. But it’s doubtful that Chavez Jr. will make a mark at super middleweight with the way he looks right now.
Chavez Jr. might need to move back down to middleweight somehow, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Chavez Jr. needs to radically change his whole fighting style from ground up for him to be able to compete at super middleweight. Right now, Chavez Jr. is just too vulnerable with the way he fights for him to be able to compete against super middleweights like James DeGale, Carl Froch, Andre Ward, Badou Jack, Arthur Abraham and George Groves.

Jr will get a light under his ass for his next fight against some average opponent and then will immediately lose motivation and get his ass ko'd again

Give it up already

He should fight his own dad in the ring for making him become a boxer instead of whatever else he shoulda been doing with his life.

Okay he is below satisfactory do you feel better now. :upsetfavre:

Going life and death with Vera, countless gifts from struggle boxers, that flabby Mexican is :trash:

Life and death with Vera, getting outboxed by Andy Lee (Julio Little Cesars Chavez Jr was lucky he was 20lbs heavier than Lee), embarrassed and taught a boxing lesson by Martinez and destroyed by Sheamus Fonfara in a non-competitive fight...even quitting in the fight:scusthov:

I tossed that nikka in the bushes asap:camby:

I've never seen a trainer want to whip a cameraman's ass so bad then the last Jr fight, he was staring daggers into him.
