There is a world of difference between Dre and Kanye. Dre was never sought after for features. Kanye was. Kanye has claimed top 5 or GOAT seveeal times throughout his career:

Top 5 MCs: you gotta rewind me
I'm high up on the line, you could get behind me--- Kanye West, "Barry Bonds"

There's also this:

51D7JCPJ9GL._SY445_.jpg

^^^ Kanye is being heralded as an MC alongside Ra, KRS, Biggie, Jay, and Kiss.

Then there's this:

^^^ he didn't produce the track. He's featured and is stuntin like he's in the echelon of these MC's on this song

2. Quentin Miller's name is on the credits to some of the songs he wrote foe Drake. It doesn't make it any less of an offense

3. Kanye is not just some unknown. He has a platform so when he says things people take notice. There are people who actually revere Kanye as an MC and because he's been so outspoken about his music and status, people view him among the greats. Again, this guy did an album with Jay and had people out here saying he got Jay on some of the songs and that Lanye carried the album lyrically. People even say Kanye had a better verse than Nas on "Still Dreaming".

You can't glosa over and dismiss Kanye because he's a producer (especially since artists have sought Kanye more for features than his beats for over a decade). Dude just recently as Pusha's album returned to focusing on production. Kanye is the guy who fathered Drake.

But who are those people who rate Kanye as an MC?

Are they Hip-Hop heads?

Just because some random movie says he is doesn't mean that real Hip-HOp heads see him as an MC.

I see him as Jay-Z's producer who raps.

You're playing dumb when there's media calling Kanye the most important artist of this generation

He could be, as Dr. Dre was the most important artist of the gangsta rap era. Doesnt make either one of them MC's

And again, you're mistaken:

Common listed his Top 5 DOA rappers:

Year: 2012

Picks: Kanye, Jay Z, Wayne, Common, Nas

"Ye killed on that Throne album."

Fat Joe also listed Kanye as Top 5 in the same article

Top 5 DOA: Your Favorite Rappers Share Their Favorite Rapper

Rappers, not MCs. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Dr. Dre could be your favorite rapper, because you love The Chronic, that doesn't make him an MC.

Your problem is that you don't understand the culture enough to know the difference between admiring somebody as an artist and claiming that they're an MC in the vein of Rakim, KRS, 2pac, Biggie, MC Lyte, Masta Ace, etc. . .

There is a difference

Plus, Kanye is Common's producer, friend, and saved his career with "Be".

If it wasn't for Kanye, Common wouldn't have all this new White democrat money he's got.

:camby:

This is what I'm getting at. So Kanye isn't out here pushing the idea that he is some lyrical beast/top tier writer?

Kanye's insane. And everyone knows that.

The man said "I Am A God".

Let's look at some of Kanye's other outlandish statements, shall we?

"Slavery was a choice"

"I am the number one human being in music. That means any person that's living or breathing is number two."

"I'm doing pretty good as far as geniuses go ... I'm like a machine. I'm a robot. You cannot offend a robot ... I'm going down as a legend, whether or not you like me or not. I am the new Jim Morrison. I am the new Kurt Cobain ... The Bible had 20, 30, 40, 50 characters in it. You don't think that I would be one of the characters of today's modern Bible?"

"My greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live."

"I'm like a tree. I feed the branches of the people."

“The media crucify me like they did Christ.”

Like seriously, you're gonna pretend that we should listen to this short bus ass nikka?

Obviously, you skipped over Common and Fat Joe, both respected figures in Hip Hop (and Common is actually considered a great MC) have Kanye in their Top 5's as an MC not artist.

Rappers or MCs?

Learn the difference.

Other respected MC's listed Kanye as a Top MC. And you know they meant MC when he's listed alongside Nas and Jay and there's a quote saying "Ye killed Watch Throne" as a rationale for him being listed. And Common wasn't just listing friends because he didn't list Dilla who also raps and produces and co-produced Common's biggest album and produced Common's biggest song.

That isn't some random movie. The same minds behind it were behind the Beef series. For him to even be on the cover with that echelon of MC's means the conversation was being had.

You're basically arguing semantics at this point.

I don't have a problem understanding the culture, but you clearly have a provlem understanding that:

1) Kanye is thought of by many to be a great MC. This is evidenced by the fact that people gripe about how lacking his latest albuns are lyrically. When people cop a Dre album, the lyrics are an afterthought.

2) Kanye holds himself in high regard as an MC.

So don't come at me talking about I don't understand the culture when you can't even accept the facts when they are staring you in the face because you are clinging to personal biases.

Again, Kanye provided an out for people like Drake to get a pass for ghostwriting and you all are being hypocritical. It's counterproductive to condemn Drake and give Kanye a pass then cry about how the culture was co opted and sold out. Giving Kanye a pass furthered that agenda and opened the door for Drake and it seems ya'll are perfectly comfortable with allowing it to happen by giving Kanye a pass.

1. I'm not arguing semantics. If you don't know the difference between a rapper and an MC, then you're not a Hip-Hop head.

KRS - One - "An MC is a representative of Hip-Hop culture, a rapper is a representative of corporate interests. An MC can be a rapper, but a rapper can never be an MC".

2. If anybody listed Kanye as an MC they'd be wrong, just like if they listed Dr. Dre or Puffy as MC's as opposed to rapping producers.:yeshrug:

3. Kanye regards slavery as a "choice" and says he'd be in the bible if it was written today,

Why do you keep looking at that fukkin loon's words as if they are important.?:mjlol:

4. It's not hypocritical to grant rapping producers a pass to be rapping producers.

Who does Drake produce again?

What classics has he produced?:usure:

pusha made a bad move...the truth will come out pretty soon :banderas:
Joe Budden basically confirmed it...Drake told Kanye he was dropping. Kanye sharked his idea, pushed out all those albums to take Drake's shine, and gave all that information about Drake to Pusha T for his disses...

Daamn there is a lot of revisionist history happening in here.

Kanye wasn't being checked for being a rapper now??

Ppl knew from day one that Kanye was using Ghostwriters??

c'mon now, y'all must not have been around at that time cuz if you were then you know damn well that ain't the truth.

NOBODY was talkin about Kanye and Ghost writers and ghost producers during that early run...

As far back as a little after College Dropout it was known that Rhymefest wrote Jesus Walks. There was no mention of ghost producers or anything but it was known that he had bars written from the jump.

Kanye has NEVER not admitted to using writers

I'm a day one Kanye fan and didn't KNOW he had ghostwriters till around MBDTF

His whole early campaign was about getting people to take him serious as a mc.

That information was NOT being projected out there. I dont know wtf these nikkas talking about.
Even during the 50 cent 106 and park battle,50 said he was a great producer and he corrected 50 saying he was a GREAT RAPPER TOO.
Bottom line,it was NOT common knowledge that he had ghostwriters

nobody has to spoon feed you everything. They was rapping with the same cadence and flows. He was rapping like Sean on Graduation. Kanye's writing help has always been obvious. I have the physical get well soon mixtape before the first album and I knew just from listening that cons was doing the heavy lifting.
