But it's weird. He was quoted as saying he used the pentatonic structure (which I know nothing about), but then when showed some notes he says:

"I'm not comfortable"

That would be like me saying "I wrote this movie, but I wanted to take the 4 act structure and do it in reverse". The someone asks "Tell me what the 4 act structure is?" and my answer is:

:usure: "I'm not comfortable"

Plus, wasn't he in band with Chad in school? Or they went to a school for gifted musicians or something. That's where they met, right?

I don't doubt his talents, and he probably is a genius, but you'd think 20+ years in the business, and throwing around shyt like "pentatonic structure" would allow you to identify one note on a piece of paper, no?

i think the fact that he is a 'genius' and that he's had 20+ years in the business makes it MORE likely that he wouldn't be able to identify one note on a piece of paper..

i studied classical music for about 8 years then transitioned into playing blues and jazz which doesn't rely as heavily on musical notation... and now i hardly play at all and haven't looked at sheet music in years (maybe 7 years or so).

in saying that if you put sheet music in front of me i might be hit or miss if i was trying to read some musical notation especially in a high pressure situation.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if pharrell hasn't had to notate or read sheet music in 10,20 years but still understands that he works in pentanic chord structures, 12 bar blues, major chords and 7ths blahblahblah when he plays music.

E.g I can sit at a piano and bang out a chord progression which i know sounds and IS a pentatonic chord progression but i wouldn't be able to sit down and write it out AND i wouldn't be able to read a chord progression and tell u what kind of structure it is.

not trying to discredit your post, just trying to add some perspective.

The song.
May you elaborate on what parts of the song was bit? That's not conclusive enough to warrant this suit.

Or you cannot prove a sample or interpolation where there should be credit given to Marvin Gaye?

No one has yet to provide this smoking gun.

It was a BS judgment thus it being appealed so credible that the presiding judge altered his ruling then attempted to block it from being appealed. If that ain't shady shyt, idk what to tell you.

didn't watch the vid yet but not necessarily.

for example, i don't personally know much about music theory. but i know how to play the pentatonic scale on guitar cause it's a simple pattern i learned from a youtube video. to this day i remember it. i could compose a song on it strictly freestyling on guitar just by staying in the pattern (and keep in mind i'm pretty much a guitar beginner). having said all that, i wouldn't be able to tell you how the scale works, i couldn't play it on piano or other instruments, don't know how it would look written on paper, etc. but technically i could play it on guitar and make up a riff or even a simple song on it.

but yes, sometimes people do talk out their ass trying to sound more knowledgeable than they are ( again, haven't watched yet, but it seems like it could be funny :pachaha:)

Word up! I was confused when he said that. Its either you know it or you don't, they're are lawyers .

He could have used the tactics Bill O'Reily lawyers used. They say Bill dont know he's lying therefore, he's not guilty of the bullshyt he spew.

Pharrell could have made it seem he didnt know what he was doing and shouldnt be held accountable
for a criminal case i'd agree with you in some cases. i don't think he could get away with it in a civil suit.

No it wasn't. It was a blatant rip off. First time I heard it, I thought of Got to Give it up.
