If he said yes and read the notes and duration he would have gave the lawyers exactly what they wanted

But it's weird. He was quoted as saying he used the pentatonic structure (which I know nothing about), but then when showed some notes he says:

"I'm not comfortable"

That would be like me saying "I wrote this movie, but I wanted to take the 4 act structure and do it in reverse". The someone asks "Tell me what the 4 act structure is?" and my answer is:

:usure: "I'm not comfortable"

Plus, wasn't he in band with Chad in school? Or they went to a school for gifted musicians or something. That's where they met, right?

I don't doubt his talents, and he probably is a genius, but you'd think 20+ years in the business, and throwing around shyt like "pentatonic structure" would allow you to identify one note on a piece of paper, no?
He is obviously self-taught on piano. Pharrell was trained as a percussionist. The sheet music for percussion instruments is different from the rest of the musical family. As you can see in the clip below when Nardwuar asks Pharrell if he reads music Pharell says "Percussion"

thing is, he wouldn't have been able to admit it regardless cause it would implicate him so he just has to go with the notion that he can't read music to avoid opening him up to outright theft

But he admitted to being able to reading music and only became uncomfortable when the sheet music was in front of him, the guy asked him what type of note it was and he couldn't even answer that. The question was equivalent to the lawyer pouring out a bucket of coins, pointing to a quarter and asking what it's value is, pharrell identifying it as a quarter wouldn't implicate him in a money laundering scheme.

Like I said in another post, I don't doubt his talents, but it's hard to know where to start when it comes to defending yourself on a crime you're pretty much 100% guilty of.

:russ: you're fukking with one of my idols but that's comedy gold. Like I can see a SNL with Pharrell in the studio and all.

'ppreciate it :win:

If he has any sense of humour about it, next time he's a musical guest they should do it as a sketch.

Brining a newly signed artist to the genius Pharrell and he just does barely changed covers of well known songs.

"But my version is spelt R-E-I-G-N. Purple Reign. It's different...

If you're not comfortable you can just leave"

Truthfully, the only similarity is stylistically. The music itself isn't the same. The lyrics are completely different, can't own a chord progression (they're slightly different), and different sounds. It's one of the craziest lawsuits I've seen. The closest thing derived from got to give it up are the chants Pharrell did on blurred lines. You all can cook, though. Provide actual evidence that he stole from Marvin Gaye.

Funny coming from a Drake fan.

I still say Robin simple pissed off a person/people with power.

If not then why is the Marvin Gaye estate letting Ed Sheeran get away with this

drake did a free remix...welcome to hip-hop assclown. :camby:

Sampling is ok mostly if you're not charging for the songs. Which is why DRAM even had to change the sample in the OG version of Cha Cha.

It why KRIT's mixtape are so sample laden.

You don't understand how this works. Those questions were leading up to something else. Had he identified the notes, the lead up would be to compare the notes of the two songs, and so on and so on.. He was giving the lawyer a hard time with the lead up questions so the he wouldn't get to the main point.

Word up! I was confused when he said that. Its either you know it or you don't, they're are lawyers .

He could have used the tactics Bill O'Reily lawyers used. They say Bill dont know he's lying therefore, he's not guilty of the bullshyt he spew.

Pharrell could have made it seem he didnt know what he was doing and shouldnt be held accountable

And sent a cease and desist to the creator of the original ass clown. and i know about the whole Dram situation and about sampling laws so you're not telling me anything new. But Pharrell didn't sample from the master track he interpolated (replayed) using synths instead of live instruments like the original. Plus Got To Give It Up is minor key and briefly modulates to major key during the bridge while Blurred Lines is major key and doesn't have a bridge at all.

The two songs are in different keys the only possible relation could be the relative relation between notes, for example, notes in one song going from A-C-E# and C-E-G# in the other.
