For those not in the know, the Democrats have been trying to pass immigration reform and Republicans are refusing to entertain it because it's an election year and they don't want to give Biden that win.

So, for all the issues with Democrats and the issue with immigration, right now Republicans are the biggest obstacle to actually doing something about it because they can run on it and they're not going to let a Democratic president enjoy the glory of doing anything about it if they feel their guy will be in office next year.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) voiced his skepticism of a deal being crafted in the Senate to pair border and migration policy changes with Ukraine aid, and said that now is not the time for comprehensive immigration reform.
Johnson said at a press conference Wednesday morning that while there has been a lot of “thoughtful and deliberative discussion and debate” surrounding the potential deal, he has not seen any final proposal and was “anxious” to see text of the proposal. But he dismissed any “comprehensive” immigration changes.
“It’s a complex issue. I don’t think now is the time for comprehensive immigration reform, because we know how complicated that is,” Johnson said. “You can’t do that quickly. I do think it’s past time to secure the border. And that’s what H.R. 2 reflects,” Johnson added, referring to the House GOP border and migration policy bill that the chamber passed last year.

American politics sucks dikk.

Edit: remember this republican saying the quiet part out loud.

Blaming republicans for democrat failures again
You haven't been paying attention.

Biden wanted additional Ukraine aid. Senate Republicans said no unless Congress can pass a bill for more employees and money for the border, and stricter border policy. Senate Democrats and Republicans been working together and pretty much got a border deal ready to go.

But the House Speaker is saying no because House Republicans want to use the border problems as a election issue to help Trump. He said in an interview that the border problem can't be fixed until Trump or another Republican is President. The Speaker was just talking to Fox News this week saying he's been talking to Trump about the border deal. You know Trump is telling him to obstruct and don't fold so that the failure to pass the deal ends up as a double embarrassment for Biden (no border win or Ukraine aid) and it helps Trump in the election.

Then you got another Republican House member on record saying he doesn't want the deal because he doesn't want to help Biden politically.

So yes, House Republicans are being the obstructionist trash they have been since the Obama years.

They're saying this because the immigration scare is a useful political invention. Non-American residents have always been the goat American scapegoat, when our elected officials get lazy. We can easily solve this, but modern politicans are more concerned with managing problems then solving them.

That comment about killing people on the border wasn't even a serious attempt to address border issues, nor was it intended to be. Our elected officials are being paid to troll each other on our dime.
