Let the Coli tell it

-Trey Songz was a superstar in '06-'07 like his album didn't sell 70,000 copies first week when hip hop/R&B was still selling. Chris Brown was crushing Trey at this time. Trey did plenty of features at this time many with regional Southern artists.

:mjlol:

He was an upcoming star not some unreachable superstar. Dudes in here acting like it's '09. Like I said he and Drake became acquaintances.

-Phonte, Elzhi and 9th Wonder beat how could he possibly get them.

Like they didn't come from relatively underground, backpacking hip hop groups. I'm not sure Phonte or Elzhi even command $10,000 for features. Act like a child actor from the Toronto suburbs can't afford to pay features brehs.

-Lil Wayne did not record on CS tell me I'm lying?

:mjlol:

Jaz Prince had to force Drake's Music on Wayne, tell me I'm lying:mjpls:

so happy that that fraud got exposed FINALLY.

anybody that has been a rap fan long enough and knows a little about the industry would know that drake is a fukking plant. i knew something was NOT right about dude when he kept repeating "i did it all by myself" and "nothing was done for me" bullshyt like he was hiding something. i've NEVER seen any well known rap artist suddenly blow up like that out of nowhere without some sort of following behind them on the underground tip. dude had big name cosigners when he was unknown. hell even on hamster, nobody was buzzing or speaking about him prior to that mixtape with the "best i ever had". nobody was coming through talking about "you heard that new drake". NOBODY.

We lost. We just had another one of art forms ripped from us. AGAIN

We gave up Rock. We gave up Jazz. And now we're giving up Rap. Because you spineless nikkas wanna ride the wave instead of keeping a buck.

Black people talking about authenticity doesn't matter anymore and letting white people dictate what's accepted and what's okay in our culture is fukking crazy.

You should all be ashamed of yourself. I'm not angry at Drake. I'm angry that you people let some fukking Jews invade and sellout our culture AGAIN.
:beli:
No one "gave up jazz" there are several prominent Black Jazz artists TO THIS DAY.

And there are several labels in the underground with Black heads (in Hip Hop) that the Coli
regularly ignores.

It's interesting how on this board, years of music and history can be erased just to make some flimsy point for daps. Drake had mixtapes BEFORE So Far Gone. He was collaborating with artists like Trey Songz before either one of them were as big as they are now. He was groomed and signed by one of the biggest rap artists of the past ten years. How is he an industry plant? The nikka whole life damn near is documented... Both ups and downs. Y'all really starving for topics to discuss like that?

Would listening to a reference track of Know Yourself, Blessings and Rico affect your opinion of him?

you're confusing some things. Yes everyone has ghost writers on some songs. dont name eazy e, dr dre, daz, all 3 of those guys are not considered rappers, rappers. Daz is a producer that rapped(of course he is going to get someone to write for him if need be he's worried about the music, same with Dre. Easy was pushed to rap because the rest of the crew(NWA) thought eazy had a great rapping voice for that era. which he did. so they gave him raps. Eazy was not around trying to be some fake rapper that lied about who wrote his songs. the only reason cube exposed him with snippet "ice cube write's the rhymes that i say..." is because NWA was talking real greasy about cube. He had to remind people, That he was the reason eazy the rapper was created. him and Ren. but Eazy to my knowledge never lied and said he wrote all of his rhymes. it was well known from day 2, not 1, but 2 that ren and cube wrote for him.

it was well known that dre had writers. dre never denied this. snoop would tell you he had help. he use to be freestyle and not be able to make whole songs. he said this himself. thats why pooh and DOC would help him write stuff. along with others.

but there has never been a time on this planet where you couldnt shove a mic in snoops face when he was Big and say "SPIT SOMETHING" and he freeze up. like drake did back when he was first coming out blazing hot. Thats because snoop is/was a real mcee.

1.ICE CUBE DIDNT EXPOSE THAT LINE, IT'S FROM AN ACTUAL NWA SONG WHERE EAZY SPIT THAT LINE:

NOT AN EXPOSURE

2.CUZ HE FREEZE UP DURIN FREESTYLES? CMON NOW...NOT EVERY RAPPER HAS TO BE A GOOD FREESTYLER. GHOSTWRITING HAS BEEN A PREVALENT PART OF HIP-HOP FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. LIKE HOW LIL KIM WAS PRETTY MUCH JUST A FEMALE BIGGIE WHEN SHE CAME OUT...BUT STILL ACCEPTED IN HIP-HOP, WIT NOTHIN ELSE TO OFFER- NO PRODUCTION, NO MANAGING SKILLS. JUST BLOWJOB SKILL AND SEX APPEAL (PROLLY THE SAME THING DRAKE GOT GOIN FOR HIM)

3.DID U JUS RETYPE MY ENTIRE POST IN LOWERCASE? GODAMN FAM

He wasnt no damn top 5 he has one of the best hip hop albums ever but that wasnt because of his pen being incredible. :mjlol:

THE FUCC U TALKIN ABOUT, RAPPIN ISNT ALL ABOUT LYRICS....SNOOP IN HIS PRIME HAD THE BEST FLOW AND SMOOTHEST CADENCE IN HIP-HOP, PERIOD, AND WAS KNOWN WORLD-WIDE AS A TOP 5, HANDS DOWN. WAS CONSIDERED BY MANY THE NUMBER 1 RAPPER IN THE WORLD IN 93, AS A MATTER OF FACT. GO TO SLEEP.

:mjlol: nikka i even said he has one of the best rap albums ever and said it wasnt based off his lyrics he was hot but no one has him in they top 5 dead or alive off his lyrics so him having a ghostwriter dont matter. He diddy and dre status when it comes to that shyt. You see how in ya initial post you didnt name any of the nikkas heralded for their lyrics. Had you named nikkas like G rap, biggie, nas, rakim, and hov and they actually had ghostwriters your post would have made sense.

Nearly every big artist today started out with an under the table development deal. That's how the industry works. Drake's potential was so high he got the biggest push. Compare So Far Gone to Overly Dedicated in terms of guest spots, money spent, etc. It was clear Drake could be huge, and the label made sure he landed.

But ultimately this is a sink or swim business. If people thought Drake was wack he would have disappeared. Instead he has crazy mainstream appeal and also urban support. He's doing thigs that haven't been done before. He sings and raps, women love him, etc. I understand why he's popular.

He also has a very smart team behind him. Dude is literally out here donating good money to politicians in Toronto. He's playing the game.

I DIDNT SAY TOP 5 DOA, I SAID TOP 5 WHEN HE CAME OUT/IN HIS PRIME, AND SNOOP WAS EASILY A TOP 5 RAPPER AT THAT TIME....LYRICALLY ON POINT TOO.

AND SINCE U BRING UP JAY-Z, SHIIT, JAY HAS RAPPED FULL BIGGIE VERSES. HE'S EVEN BIT SNOOP LINES, AS A MATTER OF FACT.

SNOOP WAS ALSO A DOPE STORY-TELLIN EMCEE IN HIS PRIME....U MUSTA FORGOT. SNOOP AS AN EMCEE IN HIS PRIME WOULD EAT DRAKE OR ANY OF HIS GHOSTWRITERS, BOTTOM LINE.

Eazy (RIP) got stuck with the AIDS needle for donating to politicians. Eazy was making a political point, recognized too late.

Why's Aubrey doing it?
