For those who don't know, the federal minimum wage in the US is currently $7.25/hr. Some states have set higher minimum wages. The highest is $9.04/hr which is in Washington. There are around a million people in the U.S. who make exactly the Federal Minimum wage.

So...do you think it should be raised? If so, what would be a reasonable one? Or will raising the minimum wage just hurt the economy and contribute to unemployment?

damn I read this title and realized my take on this has changed subconsciously

I do think there is going to be a point at which raising the minimum wage depresses job growth.. but the question is at what point does it do that

I think it should be raised. But now is not the time to do it. The economy is so messed up and fragile we should wait untill it recovers before making any significant changes to minimum wage.

Wouldn't matter. Businesses would either hire less workers or slash hours in half.

it's not like that's always a viable option. at some point you need a certain amount of employees/hours to operate

that doesn't have much to do with what I was responding to. the claim was that it "wouldn't matter" since businesses could just cut staff/hours. obviously if the business has to close down, it "would matter"

The higher your gross check is, the more you get taxed ... its fvcking stupid.

Your better off working 2 part time jobs and I'm taking about in micro terms from $11 to $12 ... you really notice it when your making $15-16.

Make a Gross Check of $700 only to see $530 of it
