yes it should.

$7.25 is $14K a year and that's working 40 hrs a week. maybe $16K if you add in OT.

$13/hr is what I get but my hours fluctuate depending on whether or not im in school (6 months out of the year) and if it's holiday season (retail).

:yeshrug: i know that I have worked very hard to get to where i am. I won't be somewhat satisfied until that $13/hr is $25-30/hr minimum.

the problem i see here in new orleans is a lot of people make between 7.25 and 11/hr. FT and PT hrs right? but then people start having 1 kid, 2 kids, 3 kids...living way above their means or plain just not knowing how to manage their finances. sometimes its their fault, sometimes its not. this makes people have to work two jobs that pay in that range and POSSIBLY only end up clearing $1500-2000 a month if they're lucky. and that aint shyt when rent in this area is 700-1000 then you add other bills and add on kids.

/end rant.

California: Minimum Wage Will Rise

Calling it a “matter of justice,” Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill on Wednesday that will raise California’s minimum wage to $10 an hour within three years. The minimum of $8 an hour will go to $9 next July 1, then to $10 on Jan. 1, 2016. In opposing the raise, Republican lawmakers said increased wages would encourage businesses to cut jobs and automate. Federal law sets a minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, but California is among 19 states and the District of Columbia that sets higher minimums. Some cities have higher rates, including San Francisco, which has the nation’s highest minimum wage, $10.50 an hour.

Yes. Minimum wage has only been increased 3 times in the last 30 years and hasn't kept up with inflation. Minimum wage should be tied to to the cost of living index and to any future tax cuts. If the rich want lower taxes and smaller government, make them pay for it instead of passing the cost along to their workers.

It's not even a question any more, minimum wage must be raised to mirror the cost of living and inflation.

there has GOT to be a way around this small business/large business problem

we need a law where these huge corporations who make billions a year (mcdonalds, walmart,) etc have to pay a higher than standard minimum wage. call it profit sharing or something, but its not right that these cocksuckers encourage their employees to take govt benefits
