Y'all cats always take shyt too far, man. Wasn't it possible to just say you thought Yela had a right to be upset without just shytting on Brand Nubian's contributions to hip hop, which the bulk of y'all don't really know about anyway. Like, I'm trying to imagine reading a bunch of literature, discussing literature one day in the company of some really well-read cats, and when they're like "Chester Himes would be ashamed of the state of popular black fiction these days" being like "Who? I never heard of no fukkin Chester Himes. When he was writing? How many decades ago? fukk that nikka!" *picks up random Chester Himes book, skims 10 pages* "Yo, this that played out, dusty Harlem Renaissance bullshyt. That don't rock around here."

:comeon: @ nikkas in here talkin bout "respect the culture"

Some of the main pieces or elements of hiphop is dissing/battling/bragging

Even before krs vs Shan, nikkas been dissing each other and talkin shyt,so u cant get mad when people who listen to hiphop act the same way..
You're equating trolls disrespecting a hip hop legend on a forum to the KRS Shan battle?

It is pure simple cultural knowledge.
that, if you say you are number one.
you better be propping krs, or he will and should take offense.
even b real had a whole pr campaign, about this.
he even went on rap city and yo, to explain this then.
why does nelly get to act above the culture.

everybody was taking shots at run dmc for threading the line of going to far.
everyone from ultra, to even mc hammer and ll.
culturally, they had credence, to do so.
just like krs had credence, to smash on nelly.
also,..in regard to yelawolf.
yelawolf is part native American I believe, too.
how would yelawolf like it.
if someone who was not native American.
made a gay indian raindance record, and made its debut at an indian raindance ceremony, out the blue.
would said gay indian raindance song maker, live....
hopefully, yelawolf sees the cultural connotation he missed in his comments.
way before he got out of his body.
I like yelawolf and I like jamar.
yet, yelawolf needs to understand the culture aspect of rap music he missed in his comments.
as I am sure,..no one that is native American would give a fakkit a pass.
for making a mockery of native American culture.
just like you can not go to a reggae spot where ras, and dem at.
then, act gay in their venue and where they partake in their culture.
it is the same in hiphop..
it is just hiphop is disrespected and made a mockery culturally, as a pre-req in the media.
then, others think it is okay, when it is not.
America as a whole has no respect for anyone's culture.
as America has no prevalent culture.
yet, and still that mantra is completely and wholely wrong and disrespectful.

like i said before, hiphop always had that "i'm the best" type of bravado in it, and of course,if another rapper feel you're not the best, and/or take offense to it, then they diss you,right?..this is(or was) a competitive type of musicial artform, and some type of beef/misunderstanding has its hand in it from time to time...

and as for respecting those that came before you, what about big daddy kane when he basically dissed all the r&b singers from the 60's-70's who felt they deserved to get paid( and they did deserve it) from all the sampling hiphop was doing? he claimed they would be forgotten if it wasn't for hiphop..what type of arrogant a$$hole shyt is that to say? hiphop wouldn't even be where it is today if it wasn't for all the other music that came before it..so you bboys & true lovers of the culture need to remember that a big part of this culture consists of taking other peoples music,so don't act like this was some sacred artform that was so original & different..besides, puerto rican's & jamacian's played a big role in the culture too,so ain't just a african-american thing anyway

you don't even understand the significance of sampling and poverty, in this culture.
nor the social degradation in the education sector.
to fully understand why kane said what he said.
that is why you just said the shyt you said...
you don't know this shyt, breh....

go study this shyt,....
when you get enlightened and the knowledge.
then, you can talk..
till, then...
you not qualified to speak, on the culture like that.
that is the problem with rap fans.
they speak on a culture they don't know.

I don't go to ras and dem spot and tell them what reggae to spin.
or how to be ras,....
same as hiphop,...
nikkaz, who toys be trying to come in and tell a real bboy or bgirl what this culture is.
when, it is obvious toys don't know, at all..
nor, will they ever know.

:stopitslime:

i didn't equate anything, i'm saying that arrogance & disrespect that hiphop fans tend to show does stem from the arrogance & disrespect that hiphop itself has displayed FOR DECADES

:russ:@ studying hiphop culture..nikka,i am hiphop culture :jawalrus:

what i am not is a bboy thou..and i don't want to be that..i fukk wit street music, cuz i'm a street nikka..and im not braggin, cuz that ain't shyt to brag about, but i prefer more street orientated hiphop

so you won't catch me listening to brand nubian or a tribe called quest or any of them hippy type nikkas..does that make me less of a hiphop fan? hell naw..its sub-cultures to this shyt b..

and if it wasn't for street/gangsta rap, this shyt would've BEEN dead..so fukk common and all that "i use to love her" shyt, nikkas ain't spray painting walls & spinnin on they head, and talking that pro black awareness in the streets no more b..murder,gangbanging & drug dealing kept hiphop alive, muthafukka :krs:

So its possible you never heard of brand nubian because of your demographic.
:manny:

but they still have a part of the history and should be respected. u dont have to agree with his opinion, but dont say "sukk my dikk"
