Alright we'll let's put it this way...

How many coaches would you take ahead of him?

1. Belichick
2. Carroll

Those two are on a level by themselves.

But after that tier...it's basically

Tomlin
Reid
Payton
Rivera
Del Rio
McCarthy (and there are strong grumblings that his basic, predictable offense is the reason why GB struggles this year)

And I'd argue that Tomlin is probably at the top of that 2nd tier with Reid.

With respect to the season Rivera had last year and the season Del Rio has this year, they don't have as long a track record of winning to put them higher (in my view)

EDIT -- by the way, I think if he were still active (he's coaching Illinois in college), Lovie Smith would belong in that 2nd tier with Tomlin and Reid.

I would agree with that. I think Payton's up there as well in that 2nd tier. I know he's struggled lately but he's a offensive guru

Yeah I think this is one of the worst eras for coaches

To be fair, the game is much, much different. Coaches can't actually "coach" now like they used to. The game is heavily geared to offense and passing. Free agency also makes it harder now to keep good teams together. Not to mention coaches having extremely short shelf lives.

Tomlin has been wasting talent for a while now though. This team has to reach the conference championship

He's been to two super bowls. You want him to make it every year?

What he doesn't get credit for is his eye for talent. They drafted so many talented weapons and did it in the later rounds. Bellichick isn't even that great of a scout, he just gets retreads that other teams draft a lot of the time

Let me just add 1 more thing since I was talking about head coaches in the NFL...

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is 9-5 right now after losing Calvin Johnson to retirement.
His 5 losses?

A 1 point loss to the Titans
A 7 point loss to the Packers
A 3 point loss to the Bears
A 7 point loss to the Texans
And a beatdown loss to the Giants, 17-6.

All things considered (Megatron's retirement, Ebron and Riddikk playing hurt all year and having their WRs being Golden Tate and Marvin Jones)...Jim Caldwell should be in the conversation for Coach of the Year.
Did I mention Theo Riddikk leads the team with 357 yards rushing? Brehs, it's Week 16. That's disgusting.

I realized a few years ago TB was crazy.

And IMO, he's been on TV too long at this point. It was cool in like 1995 to see Terry on Fox and he was kinda quirky funny.....now 20 years later, the act is old. Nobody is watching Fox pregame to hear what he has to say

There one of the weirder teams I've ever seen. They could have won all those games and they also could have very easily lost all the games they won.

Handful of great coaches in NFL the HC position is weakest it's been in long time bums galore all over the league . I'm really supposed to believe Gary kubiak is some great coach cause he has a ring :mjlol: stooges like Jim Caldwell Chuck Pagano and John Harbaugh allegedly good coaches according to casuals

What template/baseline are you using to gauge these coaches?
