You see it though. NFL parity is kind of a myth because of the one and done playoffs. That's part of the draw. If the NBA and MLB did that, people would be talking about how fair the NBA and MLB is all of a sudden. Marketing BS IMO.
Exactly what I'm sayin.
Obviously we know it can't be done but if the football post season was a series of seven games each round, the teams who you knew were better goin in would win 90% of the time too. If you allow that much room for error, eventually talent is gonna win in the end and a guy like Peyton Manning would definitely have a few more rings.
The reason there's parity in the NFL is not because the teams are all closer in talent, but because the post season lends itself to a more competitive balance. If the NBA were 1 and done like the NFL... or if it had something close, it would have the same thing. And it would be better.
In the current system, the NBA champion can be crowned even after going 16-12 in the post season. That is the absolute WORST record you can have in the playoffs and still be champion.
In my proposed system the worst you can go is 7-3. You CAN'T win the championship if you lose more than 3 games. That's pressure. That's excitement. That's proving yourself. That's how you should crown the champion.
