The NBA should adopt the NFL playoff system imo

These playoffs are gonna be interesting. Outside of Boston and Denver any team can get upset in the first round.

The NBA only adds games because it brings in more revenue. They made the first round seven games, they added the play-ins, and now the the in season tournament. They're never gonna have less games, especially not less playoff games.

NBA first round used to be 3 games, then 5 games, then 7 games.

No league has ever reduced the amount of games in a season. MLB used to be 154 games then increased to 162. Then they added the wild card, then added a second wild card team. The NFL season used to be 15 games, now it’s 17.

These dudes continue to waste their time with threads about shortening the season.

I could be misunderstanding but what you're suggesting sounds like fewer games and that's a non-starter for the NBA. If they're going to get rid of games I'd prefer it be regular season ones.

Play every team in your division three times and then play all other teams twice. That's what 12 less games? Makes every game.matter more.

Also they should consider non-conference seeding.

Regular season. You'd be surprised the teams even the '96 Bulls and '17 Warriors lost to. I'm just saying they're most likely to make it out the first round.

NBA Regular season =/= playoffs :mjlol:
Nuggets went into cruise control for like 2 months to end the season last year and then locked in for the playoffs and went 16-4 en route to a title
They're not losing to some mediocre Kings in a playoff series :heh:

Why don't yall just watch football then..

It's fukking 82 games.. of course the fan will lose some interest so the play in is awesome to ramp up the attention..

And that #1 gets a bye is awful.. imagine sitting out for a whole week + to play..

And tho it's usually a easy series.. we've seen a few 1/8 series that were awesome
The reason why I want first seed teams to get a bye to the 2nd round and 8th seeds being banned from making the playoffs is because the #1 vs #8 series are essentially predictable formalities. The first place/top seeded team will always win because they are much talented and much better than the 8th seeded team who barely qualified for the postseason. And the series are never close. The only close and competitive « 1vs 8 » in the last 25 years were last year’s upset (Miami over Milwaukee in 5, bulls/Celtics going 7 back in 2009, The « we believe » warriors upset over the top seed mavs in 2007 and finally the 1999 Knicks beating the 1st seed Miami Heat) all these teams were fake 8th seeds disguised.

So The only exceptions to the rule :

the quiet, forgotten, criminally underrated darkhorse/stronger than advertised squad teams that lowkey grab the 8th spot and upset the usually paper tiger fake 1st seeds Shocking upset to most but those who paid attention to these 8th seed teams knew they would be a threat to paper Tiger contenders.

The lower seed teams that made important additions at the deadline and became much more stronger than before and much more different from earlier in the season. The « before vs after » contrast effect.

The veteran laden teams with superstar talent and winning/championship experience and pedigree who coasted during the regular season, paced themselves to save their energy for the postseason, played just well enough to make the postseason. But as soon as the playoffs started, they completely flipped the switch

No 8th seed in NBA history ever won a playoff series against a top seed based on momentum or luck.

Why do NBA fans keep trying to find ways to "improve" the Association by having less basketball?

:what:The regular season doesn't matter

Nobody in the west is beating Denver in a series 4 times where they have home court advantage.

Denver went 16-4 last year, two of the defeats only happened because Devin Booker was shooting at 80% :mjlol:

You never heard of too much of a good thing?

It doesnt make sense to have an 82 game RS AND 4 7 game playoff series in the most predictable sport. Playoffs were not expanded for competitive or even entertainment reasons. Its a money grab.

The main "problem" is the 7-game format at every level because it makes it too predictable.

A top 3 seed wins the NBA Championship literally 98% of the time (check the stats).
The only two times a 4th and 6th seed won are the Bill Russell Celtics who were still the best team of the decade and Olajuwon's Rockets when the league was basically up-for-grabs without Jordan.

There are just way too many things that have to go right for a 4-10 seed to win the championship, especially today.
